University Hospitals Sussex is looking for a skilled and dedicated senior leader to join the pharmacy department as Lead Specialist Pharmacist, Surgery Division. As a key driver of innovation and quality, the post holder will lead a team of dedicated pharmacists and technicians whilst providing excellent patient care and guidance across the Royal Sussex County Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital

The post holder will be expected to advance surgical medication management protocols, optimise workflows and foster collaboration with surgical teams.

Main duties of the job

This is a substantive role with responsibility for the delivery, management and development of Pharmacy services to the division of surgery across Royal Sussex County Hospital & Princess Royal Hospital. As a Pharmacy team manager, the post holder will be responsible for the management and development of all staff delivering pharmacy and medicines management services to the division. The post holder is expected to provide an expert level of clinical pharmacy services to patients in a chosen area in the division of surgery.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be the lead clinical pharmacy practitioner for surgery responsible for the delivery, development, evaluation and co-ordination of clinical pharmacy services in line with the objectives of the division and the UHSussex pharmacy objectives.

The post holder will be responsible to surgery for all aspects of medicines management to optimise patients care involving the use of medication and will be the lead clinical pharmacy practitioner for all pharmacy aspects including drug expenditure reporting, safety quality issues, audit, teaching and research & development activities for the division.

Person Specification

Essential & Desirable

Essential

  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (MRPharmS).
  • BPharm / BSc (pharmacy) / MPharm/equivalent pharmacy degree.
  • Postgraduate certificate in clinical pharmacy
  • Diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience.
  • Significant experience in providing a clinical pharmacy service
  • An understanding and experience of clinical governance
  • Experience monitoring and developing policies
  • Experience of management of finance
  • Experience of high level people and departmental management
  • Experience of providing education and training
  • Experience of writing and developing guidelines and policies


Desirable

  • Experience of pharmacy computer softwares, including CMM
  • Demonstrated ability to reconcile national priorities with local realities.
  • Significant experience in providing a clinical pharmacy service to surgical patients at specialist level.
  • Management qualification/courses.
  • Independent prescriber.
