We have an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our Adult Speech Therapy team. We are pleased to be able to offer a full time permanent post to work across both acute and community settings in Stockton and Hartlepool. The option of part time hours could be considered on request.
You will be a HCPC registered Speech and Language Therapist, with experience of working with adults with acquired communication difficulties. You will also ideally have some experience of the assessment and management of adults with dysphagia, with completion of post graduate training or equivalent competencies.
Main duties of the job
This post will provide you the opportunity to work with a diverse range of communication and swallowing disorders associated with a range of clinical conditions, including long term neurological conditions, and dementia. This post offers a split role between acute and community settings, which offers great variety. The acute team work across a number of wards, including care of the elderly, respiratory, gastroenterology and ITU, and have established links with the Trust Nutrition and Hydration Group. The community team work across clinics, patient's own homes and care home settings. This role will involve working with a busy clinical caseload, working independently and as part of a team.
The adult speech and language therapy team is a small but supportive and enthusiastic team of therapists and assistants with admin support, and a speech and language therapy team lead, with leadership and support from a senior clinical professional.
Excellent speech and language therapy support is provided within the department, with regular staff meetings, peer supervision groups and a strong commitment to continued professional development.

You will provide high quality, evidence based assessment and treatment to adults with swallowing disorders and a range of communication disorders.
You will be able to plan, implement and evaluate individualised therapy plans to meet the needs of clients, with support as required from clinical lead therapists.
You will be able to plan and deliver training and supervision to team members, other professionals, carers, volunteers etc, involved in the care of a patient, with support as required from the lead therapist.
This post will provide opportunities to develop specialist clinical skills, and opportunity to work with a range of clinical conditions.
Due to the nature of the role, the ability to travel independently across the locality is essential.
