We are recruiting a new team to work on our exciting new Electronic Patient Record (EPR) programme.

Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust is bringing in a new Electronic Patient Record. This is major transformation programme that will affect almost all Trust employees, supporting them to provide better quality care for our patients and families.

We are currently recruiting for a Chief Nursing Informatics Officer B8b.

The EPR will be a big change for all our patient-facing teams, so we are looking for people with the energy, passion and resilience to manage the complexities and high risks involved to help us deliver this critical programme of work.

Main duties of the job

To support the BWC's Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer in implementation and embedding of the eight principles of good digital transformation for nurses, midwifes & AHP (NMAHPs) and Health care Scientist (HCS):
  • Use technology to support nurses and midwives' vital role in joining up care.
  • Empower frontline staff through adoption of the principles of the CNO's (NHSE) collective leadership programme.
  • Professionalise NMAHPS & HCS informatics.
  • Reduce the documentation burden.
  • Release time to care.
  • Improve safety and reduce avoidable harm.
  • Strengthen evidence base for nursing and midwifery using big data to target care and support decision making about nursing and midwifery interventions.
  • Empower people to actively participate and contribute to their care.

The post holder will report to the CN& MO and CTO, this role is key in the delivery of the NMAHPs digital transformation agenda and in achieving the overall aim of the programme. The post holder will work closely with key stakeholders across the Trust and across organisational boundaries in the wider ICS.

The CNIO will also promote innovation and champion the development of a clinically appropriate information culture across the organisation. Promoting the effective use of data for NMAHP outcomes, knowledge and technology to support quality improvements and NMAHP informatics research, which will benefit service users in their recovery and support carers.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered nurse with extensive nursing leadership experience
  • Master's degree level or equivalent professional qualification.


Desirable

  • Clinical safety officer trained (or willing to undertake).
  • Digital Academy Programme graduate


Knowledge and Nature of Experience

Essential

  • Recent experience as a senior NMAHP or HCS within healthcare organisation
  • Experience of working at a senior leadership level, demonstrating a record of achievement
  • Experience of developing and delivering clinical projects, which could include informatics interventions to improve care quality
  • Change management experience related to the planning and delivery of work in a clinical setting with demonstrated success in overcoming resistance to a change in nursing practice
  • Experience of leading large scale digital Quality Improvement or change management programmes
  • Demonstrate expertise in the application of clinical information system
  • Experience and knowledge of the national digital strategy, Informatics agenda, new technologies and their application in healthcare .
  • Proven ability to engage effectively with service users and carers and other key stakeholders within and outside the organisation and in a multi- professional environment.
  • Ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders and senior interdisciplinary colleagues to drive and embed digital technology schemes
  • The study and use of clinical data to improve clinical process and patient outcomes


Desirable

  • Management, refinement and optimisation of clinical applications to optimise care delivery
  • The use of data and process integration/interoperability both within the Trust and between organisations to support improved patient pathways and optimise the delivery of health/social care
  • Experience of leading the introduction of clinical information systems or large scale EPR implementation
  • Involvement with national initiatives which could include nursing research to support the delivery of evidence based nursing practice
  • Experience of project and programme management techniques and tools such as Prince 2, Agile or Managing Successful Projects
