This post is eligible for a Golden Hello payment of �2,750 for new starters who are external to the Trust. This is payable in 3 instalments over a 2 year period. This payment is only eligible to new starters who do not already hold a contract of employment with the Trust. This post also includes paid enhancements for unsocial hours working during night, weekends and bank holidays

As a Team Leader you will be required to take charge of shifts, lead a team of nurses and healthcare professionals on the ward and ensure patients receive a high standard of individualised patient care which assists their recovery. As a Team Leader you will ensure the safety, security and wellbeing of both staff and patients are not compromised. You will be expected to support the Ward Manager to achieve required standards of practice and communicate with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
You must be able to work a 7-day week, 24-hour shift pattern, including regular night shifts. You must be an RMN or completing a qualification in Mental Health Nursing and be registered with the NMC. Options for flexible working and part-time working are available.
You will be required to complete mandatory training to assist your professional development.

Job responsibilities
To take charge of the ward on a regular basis and have delegated trust in the absence of the Ward Manager to manage the allocated resources to maintain their effectiveness and efficiency, taking appropriate action to meet set standards and targets. Responsible for the supervision and deployment of staff and will be required to develop/teach nursing and non-nursing staff.
To participate fully as a member of a multi-disciplinary team including assessment of care needs, the development/implementation of evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards. As a prime care provider, initiate, implement and evaluate operational policies and clinical practice against agreed criteria.
Assisting patients in maintaining their physical well-being, co-existing within Health of the Nation targets.
To take personal responsibility for providing a high quality service, for areas within their areas of practice.
To undertake personal responsibility for ensuring risk assessments are carried out and implemented within patients care programmes.
To assume responsibility for coordinating clinical care for the ward and act as a role model for members of the team.
To lead a team that promotes and maintains the highest standard of care at all times, assuming supervision of staff at band 5 and below.
To make primary nursing assessments and act as a named nurse to a given number of patients. Attend where possible all relevant CPA meetings.
Assist with setting and monitoring of clinical standards within the immediate clinical area, ensuring measurable outcomes are achieved.
Accept and participate in regular supervision with the Ward Manager and designated clinical supervision.
Facilitate clinical supervision with members of the nursing team.
Keep the Ward Manager informed of any pertinent matters relating to the patients.
When in charge ensuring that all necessary information is collated and related to other necessary personnel and appropriate action taken to resolve the situation.
Develop a high degree of autonomy and responsibility while remaining within the overall clinical direction of the Ward Manager.
Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information at all times.
Delegate fairly to staff, appropriate to their ability and the workload of the unit.
Familiarise and carry out procedures in accordance with laid down local/Trust policies and procedures, eg, fire, health and safety.
Maintain good order and cleanliness on the ward.
Maintain safe custody of medicines and their administration in line with national/local policies and guidelines.
Contribute to a systematic individualised care planning approach to patients care with the involvement of allied disciplines and modern nursing strategies.
Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
Be fully conversant with the provisions of the Mental Health Act, Discharge and After Care Policies including: the Care Programme Approach, Supervision Register, Section 117 of the Mental Health Act 1983, and Supervised Discharge, Human Rights Act.
Ensure that all patients are allocated a named nurse on a 24 hour basis.
Engage in pre-admission assessment of patients with other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
Able to demonstrate an understanding of the role of arranging therapeutic interventions in programmes of care.
Act at all times in a professional and clinically credible manner, providing effective role modelling for staff and patients.
