Applications are invited for an 10 PA post based within the Community CAMHS Eating Disorder (ED) Team based at the Hopewood Site which opened in 2018. This is a 12 month fixed-term post, with a view to extension. This post is open to job share also.

The Specialty Doctor will be employed by Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and will join the nine other NHS Consultants and two Academic Consultants in the CAMHS service.

This is an excellent and career-enhancing opportunity to work within a high-quality Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. This post will provide medical and psychiatric support to the CAMHS ED team.

Suitable candidates will be registered with a license to practice from the General Medical Council. This position is also open to candidates with paediatric/ GP qualifications. Previous psychiatric or child and adolescent psychiatric experience and section 12 approval are desirable.

The post holder will provide a supportive role to the Responsible Clinician to all young people open to the CAMHS ED team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to support and consult to the multidisciplinary team to offer psychiatric expertise and direct involvement in the areas of: assessment and diagnosis, pharmacological treatments, use of the Mental Health Act (if section 12 approved/ potentially joining as second opinion doctor if RC is not available) and other relevant legislation in the management of children and young people, and the management of complex and/or risky presentations and severe symptomatology.

In addition, the post holder with support from the consultant is expected to provide psychiatric advice and expertise directly to young people and to their parents/carers to support their decision-making and involvement in their young person's recovery. The consultant will lead regular reviews of young people, contribute to/chair CPA reviews, provide ad hoc supervision and debriefs to the team, and team meetings but the post holder will be expected to actively support the consultant in all these tasks. Post holder will be encouraged to develop their clinical leadership skills with support as deemed necessary from the clinical supervisor. Involvement in other clinical tasks for the team (such as therapy provision) may be possible but would be negotiated through job planning and would take second priority to the key psychiatric and leadership tasks.

Job responsibilities

To work collaboratively within the CAMHS Eating Disorder Multi-disciplinary team, whilst providing support to the consultant, Service Manager, and other senior clinicians to ensure comprehensive packages of care for young people experiencing eating disorder. To ensure comprehensive physical health risk management in line with Junior MARSIPAN guidance and in conjunction with colleagues within Paediatric team. Regular reviews of blood results and ECG to inform the physical risk assessment. To be able to conduct/ join initial assessments, including assessment of risk to self and others and develop care plan with access to support from consultant depending upon the need. With support from the consultant, provide consultation to other members of the team regarding cases being managed by the team, and consultation to professional networks as required. In collaboration with team members and with support from the consultant, management of complex cases with management acute physical and psychological risks, including management of pharmacological treatments.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • Ability to deal with complex clinical situations and good general medical skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development
  • Full GMC registration
  • Position also open to medical candidates with Paediatric qualifications


Desirable

  • Previous clinical experience in the mental health field with experience in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
  • Part 1 MRCPsych or equivalent/better qualification
  • Completed audits
  • Knowledge of Children's Act and of Mental Health Act
  • Section 12 (2) approval


Experience
