We have two exciting Sister/Charge Nurse opportunities, one permanent and one 12-month fixed term/secondment, on ward C8 neurosurgery ward. Please indicate on your application if you are applying for the permanent and/or the secondment role.

C8 Neuro is a 16 bedded ward acute neurosurgical ward that cares for patients across the county who require elective or emergency neurosurgical and neurological care.

You will be a team member with evidence of good communication and organisational skills and recent experience of caring for neurosurgical patients in the acute care setting.

You will be offered the opportunity to develop your managerial skills and increase your specialist knowledge whilst providing quality nursing care for patients.

Main duties of the job

To manage and coordinate nursing care and to provide a safe and effective level of patient care. To assist with the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care using agreed frameworks. To participate in the supervision and teaching of qualified and unqualified staff, including basic and/or post basic students. To regularly take charge of the ward on an internal rotation system, To deputise for the ward manager across the full range of ward management.

A welcome subsidy of �1000 is available to all Band 5 and Band 6 Nurses, Midwives, ODPs and Radiographers taking up substantive employment with the Trust.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered nurse with significant previous experience in Neurosciences and/or Trauma/Orthopaedics
  • Evidence of maintaining a portfolio in accordance with PREP requirements


Desirable

  • Introduction to Management course
  • Evidence of a teaching qualification
  • Diploma in Neuromedical/Neurosurgical or Trauma/orthopaedic nursing or evidence of working towards this.


Experience

Essential

  • Sound clinical practice
  • Evidence of mentorship/preceptorship roles
  • Accept personal accountability for own practice
  • Experience of formal/informal teaching
