We have an exciting opportunity to join the HR team at Northampton General Hospital as Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Engagement Officer, initially as a fixed-term contract to the end of March 2023. You will work with the new Group Head of OD and Inclusion and build on the positive foundations of work across the organisation.

Key part of the role will be to work closely with our four staff networks, being the primary point of contact and support for network Co-Chairs, and supporting the delivery of EDI initiatives across the organisation.

Main duties of the job

  • Operate as Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Engagement Officer within The Trust to provide advice and support to the wider organisation in terms of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
  • To play a key role in the delivering of the Group EDI strategy at KGH
  • To be part of the Group and support them to deliver on strategic HR Projects and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion programmes.
  • To prepare all RA Reports and other required EDI Reports at Trust, Regional or Trust level.
  • To be part of KGH Diversity Recruitment Champion Panel
  • To support the Senior Diversity and Inclusion Specialist with all communication for any Internal KGH EDI requirements and the Diversity Calendar

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Support the service area(s) and assist senior colleagues with the development and delivery of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion initiatives.
  • To provide advice and support to the wider organisation in terms of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Plan and develop effective processes to analyse the EDI impact of current service delivery, policies and operations.
  • To support with training within the Trust for staff & managers such as Inclusive Recruitment
  • To play a key role in the delivering of the KGH EDI Plan and be involved in some of the deliverables within the Plan.
  • To be part of the Group and support them to deliver on strategic HR Projects and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion programmes.
  • Review and implement internal processes and protocols as required by The Trust work plan.
  • Provide Equality, Diversity and Inclusion knowledge and expertise in order to contribute to the Health, Wellbeing and Engagement of Staff.
  • Support the Trust and senior colleagues to contribute to the overall workforce and OD strategy g. Recruitment, Flexible Workforce, Retention, Organisational Development with a particular focus on Equality Diversity and Inclusion staff Networks
  • To manage Equality Diversity and Inclusion campaigns, analyse and communicate survey results and create a strong profile for innovative HR across the Organisation.
  • To support in running reports and analysing data and writing supportive narration. To help with continuous review of EDI Internal Reports for HR.
  • To support in acquiring information required to complete the TIDE, WRES, WDES and other required reports from different internal or external stakeholders for the EDI Manager.
  • To be able to support any research required to ensure EDI within the organisation is being well supported and progressing positively.
  • To support the work of building role model stories and recordings of those from protected groups for sharing within the Trust and within the NHS network at Regional and National level.
  • To organise the Equality Diversity & Inclusion Steering Group Meeting, including taking minutes and updating actions as required
  • To manage the EDI generic inbox and respond or delegate accordingly.
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills are needed to establish constructive relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent presentation skills using a range of medias to ensure effective roll out of campaigns
  • To communicate complex and possibly sensitive information regarding Equality Diversity and Inclusion across the organisation using persuasive, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • To facilitate staff network groups to consider key issues relating to the Equality Diversity and Inclusion of staff members.
  • To develop guidance notes/toolkits or any other materials which will support the Trust with the effective support of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Make judgements on a range of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion issues deciding for example how best to ensure effective communication of results of surveys and issues relating to these areas.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret a range of complex qualitative and quantitative data from a wide range of sources e.g. Survey results, action plans, strategies, HR data reports.
  • To contribute to the delivery of the service/projects and ensure it is seen as part of a whole systems approach towards service redesign and new ways of working.
  • Plan, collate and organise a range of HR and management information requiring frequent adjustments in relation to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Support senior colleagues with the implementation of HR strategies and change management programmes across service area(s).
  • Support senior colleagues in implementation and application of Equality Impact Assessments


Person Specification

Education, Training and Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent in a relatable subject


Desirable

  • Chartered Institute of Personnel Development Human Resource Management Level 5 (or above) or Associate level or substantial equivalent experience/working knowledge as described above.

  • Impact of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion with an NHS setting and up to date research on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
  • Experience of analysing data and presenting complex information to a broad range of diverse audiences
  • Experience of delivering on the implementation of projects
  • Working effectively and confidently with senior managers and external stakeholders

  • Well-developed knowledge of current and anticipated issues in the healthcare environment

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence and negotiate with staff and managers, present information and lead employee forums.
