The Adult Forensic Service at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust has an existing opportunity for a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist to be a crucial part in helping drive improvements to our patients' experiences and in helping contribute to the development of our new model of care.

This substantive post is within our male medium secure service at The Edenfield Centre.

While our new model of care is under development, and definitive medical job planning is under review, it is anticipated that the post holder will be the Responsible Clinician for 12 - 16 male inpatients, following their caseload from admission to discharge.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting time to join us as a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist within our male medium secure service and contribute to the development of our new model of care.

While our new model of care is under development, definitive medical job planning is under review. It is anticipated, however, that the post holder will be the Responsible Clinician for 12 - 16 male inpatients, following their caseload from admission to discharge.

Whether similarly following a patient throughout their admission, or being ward based, you will be supported by a full and expanding complement of multidisciplinary colleagues, with the current position being that you will work with a medical secretary, junior doctor(s), clinical psychologist, social worker, occupational therapist, and our nursing colleagues. To support our service user's physical health, there is additionally a visiting GP and well-established physical health team.

Alongside inpatient management, additional clinical activities include on-call work, access assessments to the service, and a range of additional activities dependent on negotiation with consultant colleagues and our new model of care.

Job responsibilities

Manage, appraise and give professional supervision to junior medical staff as agreed betweenconsultant colleagues and the associate medical director and in accordance with the Trustspersonnel policies and procedures. This may include assessing competences under theModernising Medical Careers framework.Ensure that junior medical staff working with the post holder operate within the parameters ofthe New Deal and are Working Time Directive compliant.Undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients.Record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively and submit this promptly to theInformation Department.Participate in service and business planning activity for the locality and, as appropriate, for thewhole mental health service.Participate in annual appraisal for consultants.

Essential

  • Full GMC registration and license to practice
  • AC/ Section 12(2) Approved at time of commencing post or within three months of so doing
  • Entry on the Specialist Register of the GMC or within 6 months of obtaining CCT
