We are looking for a creative, friendly, and enthusiastic OT to join our established Children's Team. The team is located near Enfield Town, with easy commuter links from central London/Hertfordshire.

Previous experience as a children's OT is needed for the post and a desire to work with younger children within Universal service provision.

Your job will be to provide specialised Early Years OT input to the children of Enfield at a Universal level of service provision. You will work closely with SLT and physio colleagues as well as with community early years providers.

This is a new post so you will have the opportunity to work closely with the Clinical Lead OT and MDT to develop clinical pathways, resources and the OT role within Universal services. There will be opportunities to develop your presentation and group work skills.

This role includes participating in service development and in-service training provision.

Main duties of the job

To provide specialised Early Years Occupational Therapy input to the children of Enfield at a Universal level of service provision. To work closely with SLT and physio colleagues in implementing this provision as well as with community early years providers.

To participate in the planning and development of Universal OT service provision for children in their early years, in collaboration with the Clinical Lead OT and MDT colleagues.

To be responsible for a defined workload within the community working autonomously with access to supervision. Advice and support from colleagues is available as required.

To provide family centred, occupationally focused assessment and intervention to disabled children and children with additional needs. To work within the available evidence based and good practice guidelines.

To contribute to service improvements and Quality initiatives within the team.

To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.

To assist in the supervision and training of students and junior staff as required.

Job responsibilities

To participate in planning and developing Universal and Targeted OT interventions for children in the Early Years, in collaboration with the Clinical lead OT and MDT.

To implement Universal and Targeted OT interventions, in collaboration with the MDT and Early Year providers

To provide advice and training to families, carers, community workers and education staff in order to facilitate the childs participation line their childhood occupations.

To participate in joint MDT training sessions for early years educators and community staff as indicated.

To run joint therapy groups with SLT and Physio colleagues in line with agreed pathways of care

To accept clinical responsibility for a designated workload within Early Years settings and organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time. To assist more junior staff in this.

To participate in multi-disciplinary work inline with clinical pathways

To select and apply appropriate Occupational Therapy Universal, addressing occupational performance and enabling the child in areas of self-care, productivity and leisure.

To work within an occupational frame of reference.

To analyse the interplay of the child, environment and activity when providing Universal support and interventions.

To assess Early years childrens level of functioning and identify appropriate strategies and intervention to facilitate and enhance participation in self-care, nursery and play.

To demonstrate specialist knowledge of evidence-based practice and treatment options using current research, and clinical reasoning skills.

To monitor, evaluate and modify interventions through the use of appropriate outcome measures, to ensure effectiveness of intervention.

To manage clinical risk within own clinical workload.

EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

• oDip. COT or BSc OT or international equivalent
• o HPC Registered OT
• o Evidence of CPD

Desirable

• oFieldwork Education Certificate
• o Member of British Association of Occupational Therapy

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Essential

• oAbility to meet the demands of the post including travel and working at a child's level

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Essential

• oMinimum 12 months postgraduate OT experience In Childrens Occupational Therapy
• o Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
• o Evidence of self-directed Learning

Desirable

• oExperience of working within an occupational frame of reference
• o Experience of group work with children

KNOWLEDGE/ AWARENESS UNDERSTANDING

Essential

• o Understanding of risk management and the risks involved in work in the community and clinical settings.
• o Some understanding of the difference between Universal, Targeted and Specialist service provision
• o Knowledge of Child Development and childhood occupations
• o Experience of family centred practice
• o An understanding of the importance of evidence base practice and how it applies to clinical practice.
