Main duties of the job
To provide a comprehensive psychiatric service to the older adult population of Greenwich. This entails assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of organic and functional disorders in over 65s, although younger adults meeting certain eligibility criteria such as young onset dementia may be suitable for the service.

Job responsibilities
To work pro-actively in partnership with the CMHTs, ward-based teams and departments to improve assessment, treatment, management, and discharge planning for patients with mental health problems.
To play a leading role in supporting the Community Mental Health Team for older people. As an integral member of the MDT there will be an expectation to participate in local weekly team meetings where cases are discussed, and management plans formulated.
To support the CMHT by contributing to making/formulating diagnoses of functional illness and dementia as well as managing more complex behavioural and psychological problems in the latter stages of dementia.
To be familiar and up to date with relevant mental health and capacity act legislation in relation to the care of older people. There will be opportunities to carry out mental health act and capacity assessments when required.
To provide, on an agreed reciprocal basis, cover in the short-term absence of colleagues within the Locality.
To be available to act as a Section 12(2) approved doctor for the purposes of the Mental Health Act.
To contribute to the education and training of medical students, doctors in training and other allied health professionals.
To maintain good quality clinical records and entries to ensure patient safety in the acute and community settings including timely risk assessments and care plans.
To provide, on an agreed reciprocal basis, cover in the short-term absence of specialty doctor colleagues.
