This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced midwife to become the Lead Midwife for the North-East London Maternal Medicine Network. The post holder will work with maternal medicine teams, including a team of specialist maternal medicine midwives, within North-East London. The lead maternal medicine midwife will lead and support the development of the maternal medicine services across the five hospital sites in the North-East London Local Maternity and Neonatal System: Royal London Hospital, Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals, Homerton University Hospital, Newham University Hospital, and Whipps Cross University Hospital. The post holder will provide clinical expertise for women and birthing people with underlying medical conditions in North-East London clinical leadership, education, and training for existing and emerging teams at each of the hospital sites robust audit of clinical outcomes and the development of research into medical conditions in pregnancy. The post will be based at Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, with travel to and clinical support of the other hospital sites. The post holder will work closely with the lead obstetrician and lead obstetric physician in North-East London to ensure timely specialist care and advice before, during, and after pregnancy for women and birthing people with known and new underlying medical conditions in pregnancy, ensuring equity in a diverse local population.
Main duties of the job
To co-develop and implement a cohesive leadership strategy, ensuring that the specific contributions of midwives and other allied health professionals are harnessed and developed. To work as part of the Network Management Team in developing and implementing a shared vision for midwifery within the Maternal Medicine Network to deliver network objectives. To serve as the primary source of expert and high-quality midwifery clinical advice across the North-East London Maternal Medicine Network. To support and facilitate the commissioning and delivery of high-quality maternal medicine midwifery services in line with the agreed shared priorities for the North-East London Maternal Medicine Network. To work with ICS and LMS leads, the Directors of Midwifery and Lead Midwives from network constituent organisations, community and primary care services, and representatives from other agencies to ensure that structures are developed to provide and sustain an expert midwifery maternal medicine workforce which will deliver evidence-based practice and best possible care across the sector To develop of a maternal medicine midwifery workforce strategy that will continually develop midwifery practice and advanced practice midwifery roles within the North-East London Maternal Medicine Network.
