To act as specialist clinician for the Physiotherapy Service working in the Acute Therapy Team which covers Trauma Orthopaedics, Medicine and Elderly. Assessing and treating patients on the Acute Medical and Orthopaedic wards.Supporting the clinical lead with evolving and embedding best practice into the clinical area.

Please note this job is for a permanent full time role however we would consider a reduction in hours for the right candidate

Main duties of the job

We are seeking to recruit a band 6 physiotherapist with Orthopaedic and Acute Medical/Elderly experience, and following training, our 'front end' areas including the Emergency Dept and Acute floors. There will also be a requirement to join the respiratory on call service.

This opportunity will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to become involved in not only therapy delivery with patients, but also service delivery experience, the supervision of staff, training delivery and deputising as required for the Clinical Lead in their absence. In return, the successful candidate can expect structured supervision, annual development plans that guide their training and development needs throughout the year and training relevant to their learning needs.

About us

This post will primarily be based at HRI although there is an expectation to work cross site at CRH to meet the needs of the service as required.

The in patient services provide therapy interventions across a 7 day rota. In addition, there is an on call, overnight respiratory physiotherapy service which the successful candidate would also be expected to participate in. Our on call staff benefit from a comprehensive on call training package, buddy system upon commencing on call and annual update training.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To act as specialist clinician for the Physiotherapy Service within the Acute Therapy team working on the Medical, Elderly and Orthopaedic wards. Supporting the clinical lead with evolving and embedding best practice into the clinical area.
  • To manage own specialist caseload in this area.
  • Work autonomously within Trust policies and professional practice, maintaining accurate and comprehensive up to date records.
  • To carry out specialist assessment and treatment of orthopaedic and medical patients in hospital following an acute illness phase and those in the acute rehab phase, facilitating safe and timely discharges and contributing to the MDT aims.
  • Determine a clinical diagnosis, develop, deliver, implement, evaluate and modify individualised treatment programmes and/or provide specialist advice, ensuring appropriate pathways of care and communication via liaison and referral to other agencies as required.
  • Take part in the education and training of Physiotherapists and qualified and non-qualified healthcare / social services / education staff including medical staff.
  • To support the Clinical Leads/ Team Leader in the day to day running of the Therapy team.
  • To support and advise within the wider MDT on the delivery of the service


Person Specification

EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Knowledge and expertise in assessing acute medical and orthopaedic patients
  • Knowledge relating to and expertise in discharge and transfer of care planning and co-ordination
  • Evidence of relevant training and maintenance of best practise


Desirable

  • Previous experience working at Band 6 level.
  • Manual Handling Facilitator.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Relevant Degree/Diploma
  • Registered with HPC
  • Evidence of Postgraduate training
  • Clinical Educator Training
  • Recent experience demonstrating ability to assess, treat and evaluate care in surgical, acute medicine and respiratory care
  • Good clinical reasoning skills
  • Evidence of CPD, self-directed learning and reflective practice


Desirable

  • Member of Professional Body
  • Studied at Masters level or equivalent
  • Experience in contributing to service improvements e.g. audit, patient information etc
  • Experience in dealing with complaints e.g. diffusing complaint or investigating complaint
