Are you interested in being at the heart of Neurological, Neurodegenerative and Ageing Clinical Research?If you are, we have an exciting opportunity to join our research delivery team as a research nurse. We are a diverse team and welcome applicants from a wide range of clinical and health care backgrounds.Our team supports a wide range of studies from observational studies through to clinical trials ranging from phase 1-4. We help to deliver cutting edge novel therapies.The role will suit somebody who has comprehensive nursing experience with our patient groups.On successful appointment, there is a tailored comprehensive induction and training programme.

Main duties of the job

The main base is the John Radcliffe Hospital, the post-holder will lead in the provision of a clinical study service.
  • Study Coordination of commercial trials and large cohort studies.
  • Delivery of complex investigative medicines.
  • Supporting invasive and complex outpatient procedures.
  • Working closely with the team to deliver the wider portfolio of studies.
  • You will be responsible for assessing and managing the care pathways for patients and carers participating in clinical studies focused mainly on neurodegenerative diseases, neurology and ageing.
  • Recruitment, education and monitoring of research participants and the collection and documentation of accurate data including collection and management of tissue and/or samples.
  • Supporting a wide range of research clinics.
  • Processing lab samples.
  • Conducting assessments as per the study protocol.
  • Collecting physical assessments.
  • Supervising and supporting junior staff.


About us

Our team is part of Division 4 Neurology and Neurodegenerative diseases with the Thames Valley and South Midlands area, as well as Ageing studies within OUH.

We are a diverse team of research nurses, practitioners, administrators. Working closely with clinicians to support and deliver research across our patient groups. The team comes from a variety of backgrounds such as nursing, mental health, psychology, biochemistry and NHS to name a few.

The CRN: Thames Valley and South Midlands is one of 15 local Clinical Research Networks in the NIHR Clinical Research Network (NIHR CRN). The NIHR CRN is the clinical research delivery arm of the NHS in England, tasked with supporting the rapid set-up and effective conduct of studies, so that researchers can gather the robust evidence needed to improve treatments for NHS patients. These local Networks drive clinical research delivery performance across the locality, and champion the role of clinical research in the NHS at every level.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree trained Level 1 Registered Adult Nurse


Desirable

  • Evidence of post registration or post graduate learning and development
  • Evidence of training within the field of Ageing, Neurology, Mental Health or Neurodegenerative Diseases


Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge and experience in the field of Dementia, Ageing, Mental Health, Neurology and Neurodegenerative diseases
  • Competency in clinical/ physical skills (e.g. vital signs)
  • Good time management and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Evidence of continuous personal, professional development
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary environment


Desirable

  • Experience administering infusions
  • Experience in project management
  • Clinical research delivery experience
  • Experience in, or willingness to undertake training in additional skills physical skills such as ECG, venepuncture, cannulation/ cognitive assessments
  • Experience in processing lab samples for research
