The post holder will work for the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Oxford Clinical Research Facility (CRF). We are a growing team of nurses, research practitioners and administrators with fantastic support from the wider research community. The team have a growing portfolio of studies that cover all specialities. The NIHR Oxford CRFisgoverned by a collaboration between the University of Oxford and OUH NHS Trust. The facility is part of a network of facilities funded by the National Institute of Health Research.

The post holder will work mainly in the Experimental Medicine Clinical Research Facility (EMCRF) based on the Churchill site, but the role may involve working with other teams in other CRF locations within the Trust.

The role will provide excellent professional and clinical leadership in the field of experimental clinical research promoting the effective delivery of a high standard of nursing care for all research participants and contributing to the development of the service, practice and individuals .

Managerial responsibilities include managing a core CRF clinical team and being instrumental in delivering recruitment targets, implementing team objectives to enhance the performance and development of the team members. The post holder will be expected to have specialist skills and knowledge relating to the conduct of clinical trials, therapies, disease and management.

Main duties of the job

As a Senior Research Nurse you will be expected to lead a multidisciplinary team in delivering the clinical research portfolio. The role requires a level of research experience as well as leadership experience. The role will involve daily management of the activities within the facility, as well as supporting the Operational Lead with the wider portfolio management and working to meet strategic objectives. The role is mainly ward/clinical based but there will be some requirement for related administrative work.

Ensuring research projects are completed successfully and within specified timelines will be critical and the role provides a unique opportunity to communicate and assist with the project management of the team's studies.

It is essential that you are organised and able to plan work to a high standard with excellent attention to detail. You will also be an important member of the research team and as such will be involved with other on-going/new studies.

The post holder will work within the NIHR Oxford CRF, based in the Experimental Medicine Clinical Research Facility on the Churchill Academic Site. The role will involve closely working with associated University of Oxford departments and colleagues.

  • Experience of nurse leadership and management in specialist area.
  • Sound knowledge of current issues and legislation within the NHS and clinical research infrastructure in the NHS
  • Evidence of experience of management and multidisciplinary working
  • Experience of working in clinical research nurse role
  • Good knowledge of the speciality

  • Registered Nurse (Part 1. 8. 12 or 15 of register depending on area of practice) or National certification in area of Practice
