Leg Ulcer / Lymphoedema Specialist Nurse - 27 hours per week - Permanent
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the recently amalgamated Tissue Viability/Lymphoedema and Leg ulcer service. The post holder will assist and work independently within the Leg ulcer/Lymphoedema team as part of the Tissue Viability service. The candidate will be working within community and hospital settings, providing specialist wound care advice, organising workload, promoting clinical excellence with a specific focus on the assessment and management of Leg ulcer, Lymphoedema and lower limb wounds, including multilayer bandaging as appropriate. Exercising leadership and judgement to ensure good clinical practice and high standards of care are maintained in order to meet service demand
You will be working within an integrated department and be involved with the current changes and developments within the organisation.
Main duties of the job
As a Band 6 Leg ulcer / Lymphoedema specialist nurse you will be expected to triage patient referrals and incident reports, prioritise workload, assess and review patients holistically supporting a dressing plan and for the appropriate equipment to aid healing/prevent deterioration including compression garments as necessary.
It is a part of the Leg ulcer/ Lymphoedema specialist nursing role to educate and empower clinical nursing staff to provide high standards of care to our patients.

The post holder has continuing daily responsibility and accountability with and without direct supervision from the Tissue Viability/ Lymphoedema/leg ulcer team. Assesses, plans, implements and reviews routine through to complex care packages using research and evidence based knowledge to underpin practice in the field of tissue viability and Lymphoedema, including compression therapy strategies and multi layer bandaging where appropriate.
To supervise, lead, inform and delegate staff as appropriate to the needs of theservice by utilising nursing skills and resources effectively as directed by the Teamleader. This will include: chronic odema management, wound assessment, Dopler assessment, leg ulcer management and pressure ulcer prevention and management.
Applies Specialist, analytical and judgemental skills to assess and interpret acute,chronic and palliative conditions, taking appropriate actions to prioritise patientsneeds.
Demonstrates a high level of intuitive and creative problem solving skills to facilitatepatient centred care: rationalising information to create patient concordance by usinga high level of communication/negotiation skills.
Participates in the performance and development review process within the team andundertakes review of junior staff under supervision of the team leader.
Prescribe efficiently and effectively from the Greater Manchester wound careFormulary.
To participate in the investigation of complaints and safeguarding concerning nursing services in accordance with the level of experience and encourage comments and suggestions on improving the quality of the service.
To ensure that accidents, complaints and unusual incidents are reported inaccordance with the policy.
To analyse caseloads and constantly review work patterns as required.
To participate in systems of clinical governance to achieve quality improvements i.e.clinical audit and evidence based practice.
To support and develop staff using CPD and to identify future leaders

- Leg ulcer management course or equivalent
- Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD)
