Children & Young People Services

The post-holder will be responsible for professional psychological practice and quality across all Children and Young Peoples services across the Network, including Looked After Children services, to ensure excellence in patient experience and outcomes. They will provide professional leadership for psychological professionals in the Network and act as a motivator and catalyst and expert resource. They will have a Network wide perspective as well as a strategic focus outside the Trust. They will work closely with the other members of the Network Senior Management Team, Director for Psychological Professions and Health and Local Authority Commissioners.

The post holder will take responsibility for the establishment and leadership of appropriate Professional Network forums which will encompasses all psychological services and therapists within the CYP services in the Network. This will enable and support the pooling, development, sharing and retention of psychological knowledge and skills, strategic planning for the profession,

professional & clinical governance and a clear identity for psychological services and therapies. It will facilitate co-ordination of supervision and training placements and support recruitment, professional self-regulation and continuing professional development. The post-holder will take responsibility for a small budget to enable the forum and maintenance of psychological resources.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will take responsibility for continuing the leadership of a Professional Network (Locality) Forum which will encompass all psychological services and therapists within the CYP services in the Network. This will enable and support the pooling, development, sharing and retention of psychological knowledge and skills, strategic planning for the profession, professional & clinical governance and a clear identity for psychological services and therapies. It will facilitate co-ordination of clinical supervision and training placements and support recruitment, professional self-regulation and continuing professional development. Attendance at other senior psychological professional forums is also required along with significant contribution to transformation programmes. You will work alongside the Director for Psychological Professions to translate and enact the actions attached to the emerging Psychological Professions Strategy at network level. The post-holder will also offer a limited clinical service including consultation and supervision within CAMHS.

Qualifications

Essential

• Good honours degree in psychology. Eligibility for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS).
• Post-graduate doctorate in clinical psychology, (or equivalent for those trained before 1996) as accredited by the BPS including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological theories and lifespan development psychology.
• HCPC registered as a practitioner psychologist (clinical).
• Eligibility for consultant clinical psychologist appointment approval from external BPS assessor.
• Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS.

Knowledge

Essential

• Doctoral level knowledge of clinical psychology including highly developed knowledge of lifespan developmental psychology, models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological theories and lifespan development psychology.
• Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management.
• High level ability to communicate effectively at both written and oral level complex, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and a wide range of lay and professional persons within and outside the NHS.
• Knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to the client group and mental health.
• Highly developed and effective communication skills both orally and in written format, including the ability to communicate technical and highly personal and sensitive information and clinical judgements to a wide range of lay and professional people including individual clients and carers and staff within and outside the NHS.

Experience

Essential

• Assessed substantial experience of working as a qualified Clinical Psychologist within a designated specialty.
• Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups across the whole life course, in various settings including outpatient, community, primary care inpatient and residential care settings. Also including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and threats of physical abuse.
• Experience of providing a range of complex psychological assessment and interventions using information derived from a variety of sources and requiring highly developed analytic and interpretative skills.
• Experience of exercising full clinical responsibilities for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care-coordinator and also within the context of a multi-disciplinary care plan.

• Enthusiasm for a broad range of psychological phenomena/issues an interest in models of service delivery and an ability to articulate the value added by psychological services within the context of multi-disciplinary mental health services.
• Ability to contain and work with organisational stress and ability to 'hold' the stress of others.
