The Orthoptic Department currently provides general adult and paediatric clinics including patients from eye casualty, neurology, stroke rehabilitation team, vision screening and special school screening. In an extended role capacity we currently support/work in the following clinics: Dystonia/Botox, JIA, AMD, Glaucoma Monitoring.

Training and development opportunities are in high supply here. We will support you to develop your career with one of the largest NHS Trusts in the South West.

This post offers an excellent opportunity for new graduates, with appropriate development and mentoring opportunities. New graduates or those who do not have relevant experience will be paid at Band 5 rate with the opportunity to progress to Band 6 on completion of a preceptorship programme and relevant competencies within a supportive learning environment.

The successful candidate will work alongside a dedicated team of Ophthalmologists, Orthoptists, Orthoptic Assistants, Optometrists and Nurses in a busy supportive department.

The post is based at North Devon District Hospital however we also hold clinics at various community locations therefore an ability to travel is essential.

In addition to supporting the core orthoptic adult and paediatric service there will also be opportunity to develop skills and work in an extended role depending on service need.

Professional development is encouraged and full participation is required in clinical audit, clinical governance sessions, dedicated journal clubs, departmental meetings and courses/ seminars relevant to the role.

Applicants must hold a degree or diploma in Orthoptics and be registered with the HCPC.

Working Pattern: A healthy work-life balance is essential. This role is full-time, 37.5 hours per week worked over 4 days, however we are happy to discuss part-time hours or a job share. In addition we have a flexible working policy that we are happy to discuss varying your hours to ones which work for you and the department. Worked over four days with three days of 9.5 hours and one day of 9 hours
