Stroke Specialist Nurse (Band 6), 12 months Fixed term , West Cumberland Hospital

The Stroke Department is a friendly and caring environment providing care to the most critically / acutely ill patients. Our current Stroke wards regularly receive excellent feedback from patients and their families about our caring staff. Excellent communication is vital as we work with a mixture of specialist nursing teams, medics and therapists. We aim to provide an individualised and supportive environment for patients in which to deliver this specialised care for patients following a stroke.

Main duties of the job

The role of the stroke specialist nurse will be to provide specialist stroke care to acute stroke patients and for stroke patients requiring rehabilitation, working interdisciplinary with other professionals to achieve the best outcomes for the patient's. The role also involves leadership to ensure the stroke service runs efficiently as well as providing the development of high quality stroke care services.

Person Specification



  • Registered Nurse, with active registration
  • NST 307 or equivalent.
  • Relevant training at level 2 or equivalent.


  • Stroke Specific Course
  • ECDL or equivalent
  • Further relevant training at level 3 or equivalent
