A great opportunity for an experienced communications professional to work with us at the Central and South Genomic Medicine Service to embed genomic medicine into the NHS and raise awareness amongst the communities we serve. You will have the opportunity of working with colleagues across the whole of our geography which stretches from the Isle of Wight to Stoke on Trent. Particularly well suited to someone used to building networks outside a single organisation, as well as being self motivated. No prior knowledge of the subject area is needed, although would be beneficial, as well as a track record of working well with a range of professionals and getting to grips with complex issues quickly. In return you get to work with the dispersed, but supportive, core teams at the Genomic Medicine Service Alliance and Genomics Laboratory Hub, as well as your counterparts in the other six GMSs across England.
Main duties of the job
To promote the reputation of the Central and South (CAS) Genomics Laboratory Hub (GLH) and Genomics Medicine Service Alliance (GMSA), together the CAS Genomics Medicine Service (GMS) through the creation and maintenance of positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
The role will involve working with the wider Genomics team to support implementation of the communications and engagement strategy and action plans in line with our visions and values.
The post holder is required to communicate with staff at all levels, key partners, the media, patients and the public via effective and appropriate communications methods.
The post holder will have specific responsibility for communications to identified stakeholders. This will include presentations to new and potential stakeholders, community presentations, taking the lead in managing associated events and campaigns and planning complex communications activities.
The post holder will develop and implement a joined-up approach to promoting core communication project activity internally, externally and with the input of key partners such as Universities, other GMSAs and GLHs, Cancer.
The post holder will also jointly shape the work of our PPI group to ensure the patient voice is integral to all we do.
