We would like to invite you to apply for the Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult, working in West Devon (Ivybridge and Tavistock).This is a permanent post as the previous post holder moved on . It is a post for a General Adult Psychiatrist for patients age 16-65 years old (16-18 out of fulltime education) serving a mixed rural and urban community in West Devon.

The post covers three PCNs and our Trust has worked closely with the commissioners to redesign the service and the form effective links with Primary Care services and Plymouth secondary care services. It has a long history of excellent community based services and has worked innovatively for many years.

The post is with a well-established multidisciplinary team of nurses, psychologist, occupational therapists, and community support workers.

Main duties of the job

This CMHT is based in Tavistock, where private office space with PC accessibility and IT support is available and appropriate secretarial support will be provided.

S/he will offer assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients as well as other expert clinical services West Devon. The post holder is expected to be part of s12 rota and on call rota

This is an exciting role for someone who wants to take part in the development of community mental health services. Apart from the regular clinical duties, the post holder is expected to take active part in multidisciplinary team meetings, referrals meetings, governance meetings and, contribute to the development of mental health services in the area. The post has a dedicated 2.5 SPA time for developing and executing the management and leadership skills.

Person Specification

Teaching and Supervision

Essential

  • Experience of teaching undergraduates and postgraduates.


Desirable

  • Evidence of additional teaching skills.
  • Experience as a lecturer or supervisor.
  • Experience in Clinical Supervision.


Management

Essential

  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and managers.
  • Awareness of NHS management and funding arrangements.

  • Management training / experience.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council.
  • To hold Approved Clinician status at the point of taking up post.
  • Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview
  • Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.


Desirable

  • MRC Psych
  • Other professional qualification
  • (eg CBT, PSI, CAT ).
  • CCT in General Psychiatry


Experience

Essential

  • Prior experience working in a Community Mental Health Team.
  • Experience of psychiatric practice in a range of settings, especially the community.
  • Experience of audit and an understanding of the principles of clinical governance.


Desirable

  • Evidence of development of special interest in Community based Psychiatry.
  • Proven commitment to improving the quality of clinical care.
