We are looking for an experienced band 5 children's nurse for our 16 bedded paediatric admissions, short stay medical/surgical ward. The ward takes admissions from our Emergency Department and theatres including general paediatric medicine, general/ENT/orthopedic/plastic surgery, acute mental health admissions, oncology/haematology, endocrine, and dermatology specialties.

The Royal London offers the unique experience of being both a DGH and tertiary referral center and therefore offers huge variety in terms of the nursing caseload . We have an enthusiastic, supportive and motivated ward team, specialty CNS teams, Practice Development Nurses and experienced band 6s who can offer support and clinical expertise.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a similarly enthusiastic children's nurse who is passionate about the care of children and their families, as well as the well-being of colleagues and shares our vision for the future of the Childrens Hospital at the Royal London.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To provide effective family centred nursing care to patients and their families.

Ensure that evidence based practice is performed at all times, taking responsibility for updating own knowledge and skill in line with Trust policies and procedures and NMC code of professional conduct.

For newly qualified band 5 nurses, it will be an important step in consolidating practice and completing all relevant clinical competencies, receiving adequate support from colleagues.

Person Specification



  • oKnowledge of resource management
  • oKnowledge in education process of patients, families, students and other qualified/non qualified staff
  • oKnowledge/ experience of providing nursing care for children within an acute paediatric setting
  • oAwareness of working with children/families within a multi-cultural environment



  • oRSCN/RN Child/ RN


  • oAssessing and mentoring qualification
