Are you a motivated and dedicated occupational therapist who's aim is to work with children and young people? If so, we would like you to join our dedicated Children's Rehabilitation Team which provides specialist services to children and young people.
This is an excellent opportunity to work in one of the largest children's hospitals in the UK and develop your rehabilitation skills. We offer comprehensive assessment, treatment and discharge planning for children with complex needs arising from birth, illness or injury.
You will work collaboratively with children and young people from 0-18 years often with complex health conditions or significant injuries, alongside their families and the multidsciplinary team.
The post holder will gain acute inpatient & /or outpatient experience in paediatrics supporting a dedicated occupational therapy team depending on service needs in either neurology (including acquired brain injury and long term complex conditions), orthopaedics (elective and trauma) or rheumatology and chronic pain.
There is an expectation that you will participate in the Major Trauma & Orthopaedic weekend and Bank Holiday out of hours rota once you're competent to do so.
Main duties of the job
As an HCPC registered health professional, you must have acquired significant clinical experience working as a qualified occupational therapist in an acute NHS setting. Previous adult experience in neurology and orthopaedics or community paediatric experience is desirable. You must be a sound team player and be able to work alongside experienced health professionals. You'll need sound communication skills to enable you to work positively with community colleagues.
You'll need resilience to work with patients with major injuries or life-limiting illnesses and in supporting parents/carers. You'll be a flexible and resourceful individual working collaboratively as a core member of the multidisciplinary team. You'll need to be able to problem solve and respond swiftly in a busy hospital environment working under time pressures.
You will have the opportunity to contribute to student education. The Trust is committed to developing its staff professionally and personally, so you will have regular appraisal, supervision and training.
