And as a specialist in inpatient Rehab service you'll know how best to support people with chronic and enduring mental disorders. Working 10PAs a week over 5 days alongside the multidisciplinary team, including consultant, junior doctor, and wider clinical teams, you will be the clinical expert from a medical perspective to ensure best practice care is delivered and support the team.

Post Details

This is a fulltime post to provide senior medical input into inpatient rehabiltation unit. The post holder will be joining a dynamic group of experienced medical and non-medical colleagues who are committed to working hard for the benefits of patients and their families. There are significant opportunities to become involved in service development, and excellent links with local Universities with opportunities for teaching and research, linked to Medical Schools at the Universities of Newcastle and Sunderland.

Approved Clinician Status or working towards attaining AC Status within six months.

Main duties of the job

The post holder would provide senior expertise in the assessment and treatment of patients admitted to the ward. The Specialist Grade doctor will work with Consultant in the service and are expected to work increasingly as a team to ensure that all patients are managed in a timely and effective manner. The configuration of senior medical staff will be regularly reviewed through team job planning to ensure that workloads are evenly balanced. The Specialist Grade doctor would attend ward daily reviews, formulation meetings, Discharge planning and other Multidisciplinary Strategy meetings. The post holder will be part of the ward leadership team with the ward manager and other key clinicians. There are regular leadership meetings on the ward. There will be an expectation that the post holder will work towards Approved Clinician status in a timely manner.

The post holder is expected to demonstrate a commitment to delivering excellence in clinical care, in working effectively with multi-disciplinary in-patient teams and promoting the safety and wellbeing of the patients. The post holder is expected to respect the rights and the dignity of patients, to consider the individual and cultural needs of patients and to work with families and carers in the best interest of the patient (in line with the Trust Carers Charter). Person Specification

Qualifications / Eligibility

Essential

  • MBBS (or equivalent)
  • Full Registration with the GMC (or eligible to become registered before appointment) with a licence to practice
  • Completed a minimum of 12 years' medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification of which a minimum of six years should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades

  • Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
  • Approved Clinician Status or working towards attaining AC Status within six months


Desirable

  • MRCPsych or equivalent qualification
  • Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field
  • Has undergone training in educational supervision
  • Has undergone training in appraisal
  • Included on GMC Specialist Register (General Psychiatry) or eligible for inclusion


Knowledge

Essential

  • Up to date knowledge in the field of Psychiatry
  • Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983
  • Good knowledge of relevant Mental Health legislation including the MCA
  • Good knowledge of clinical risk management
  • Good knowledge of evidence based strategies for management of psychiatric disorder


Desirable

  • Awareness of current issues and controversies in service provision, mental health policy and legislation


Experience

Essential

  • Develop effective relationships across teams and contribute to work and success of these teams - promote and participate in both multidisciplinary and inter-professional team working
  • Wide clinical experience in psychiatry in different clinical settings
  • Experience of working autonomously
  • Awareness of leadership responsibilities as a clinician and demonstrates appropriate leadership behaviour

  • Experience in multi agency work especially with service user, carer and voluntary agencies
