Are you enthusiastic, highly motivated and hardworking looking for a new challenge? Do you want to work in a caring and professional environment where patients come first? We are looking for a Sonographer at University Hospitals Dorset.

UHD ultrasound is split over three sites, Poole, Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch hospitals. Many types of ultrasound examinations are carried out by the team including general medical, obstetrics, gynaecology, vascular, paediatrics, including neonatal hips and neonatal heads, and musculoskeletal. We also scan as part of the Early Pregnancy clinic, various one-stop clinics and provide a 7 day ultrasound service.

We are a friendly supportive team who are responsible for independently performing and reporting Ultrasound examinations while ensuring the highest standard of patient care. Across the trust there are 10 general ultrasound rooms, 7 obstetric rooms, 2 Early Pregnancy Clinic rooms and 1 Gynae room. There is a mix of Philips, GE, Canon and Samsung Ultrasound systems throughout the department.

Main duties of the job

UHD Radiology department actively encourages CPD, supporting both internal and external educational events. Within ultrasound we promote regular audits, support the training of student sonographers and MSc level qualifications. We are considerate towards protecting staff against RSI with up-to- date ergonomic equipment and ultrasound lists designed to support safe practice. In striving for excellence, the radiology department has also been recommended for QSI accreditation.

The successful candidate would need to be able to work both independently and as part of our team whilst demonstrating high levels of competency. Excellent communication skills, outstanding interpersonal skills together with a caring and professional attitude are essential.

The post is full time across all sites, although a part time position and flexible working would also be considered.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma of college of Radiographers or BSc. Radiography
  • HCPC Registration
  • Postgraduate qualification in Medical Ultrasound


Experience

Essential

  • Postgraduate experience in ultrasound
  • Ability to work independently in all areas of ultrasound including - obstetrics, gynaecology and general abdominal
  • Evidence of continual professional development
  • Recent NHS experience


Desirable

  • Experience supervising, teaching and mentoring all grades of staff
  • MSK
  • LATP Biopsy
  • Vascular
  • Paediatric (including neonatal hips and neonatal heads)


Technical Skills

Essential

  • Autonomous Practitioner
  • Good time management and prioritisation skills
