The Maternity Services provides band 6 midwives with an excellent, comprehensive induction and bespoke development package to enable career progression with broad options for working across a variety of clinical settings.

Person Specification

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience


  • Registered midwife on relevant part of the NMC Register
  • Diploma or degree in midwifery
  • Completion of preceptorship
  • Competent clinical skills and knowledge across all areas of midwifery practice
  • Understanding of clinical priorities
  • Understanding of current midwifery issues
  • Knowledge of current Government NHS Agenda relevant to Maternity Services
  • Suturing competency
  • Cannulation competency


  • Physical Examination of the Newborn (NIPE) qualification
  • Recognised teaching / mentorship qualification
  • Professional Midwifery Advocate (Supervisor of Midwives)
  • Case loading experience
  • High dependency experience
  • Shift leading experience
