Applications are invited for a Clinical Research Fellow in Lymphoma. This is a 12month clinical research fellowship, with possibility of extension, conducting research projects focussed on clinical and translational research (predominantly lymphoma). The post will support both the research and clinical duties of the GI/lymphoma unit (including both two new patient/follow up clinics each week in addition to up to two research clinics per week).Applicants must be eligible for full GMC registration, hold a national training number in a relevant specialty (medical, clinical oncology, gastroenterology or haematology) and MRCP equivalent.

Main duties of the job

The post is suited towards either:- A core medical trainee 2 (CMT2 trainee) interested in acquiring medical oncology and research experience prior to applying for specialist training in oncology or- A post CCT trainee looking to develop their lymphoma knowledge in more detail and to gain experience in running, managing and devising clinical and translational trials in lymphoma. To fulfil the requirements of the post, applicants must be eligible for full GMC registration, hold a national training number in a relevant specialty (medical, clinical oncology, gastroenterology or haematology) and MRCP equivalent.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Develop clinical research skills in order to propose, design and develop academic institutional and/or multicentre clinical trials with support from the consultants and experienced statisticians and trial managers working within the GI/lymphoma unit

Develop grant writing skills for peer reviewed funding and/or endorsement of academic clinical and translational studies. This includes understanding how to appropriately cost a study and attribute the costs of healthcare research as required by major research funders

Develop skills to design translational research protocols in collaboration with clinician scientists and statisticians

Learn how to work collaboratively with industry in order to conduct investigator[1]initiated academic trials of anti-cancers drugs in lymphoma patients

Understand how to engage and involve patients and the public in clinical research in lymphoma

Qualifications

Essential

  • Eligible for full GMC registration
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • National training number (NTN) in relevant specialty


Desirable

  • Trainee in medical oncology, clinical oncology, gastroenterology or haematology.
