An exciting post is available for a Speech and Language Therapist to join the Older People's Mental Health Service in Stockport. This will include the delivery of evidence-based Speech and Language Therapy services including assessments and specialist interventions to older people across inpatient and community settings who may have complex needs.
The post holder will also be involved in the development, implementation and review of care pathways alongside experienced clinicians. The post holder will manage the Speech and Language Therapy input to the teams including inpatient wards (functional and organic), Young and Rarer Dementia Service, Memory Assessment and Community Mental Health Teams.
The post holder will need to be experienced in assessment and will carry a case load in this area. This post provides an interesting mix of both communication assessments and interventions, as well as dysphagia practice. The post holder will have support from an experienced speech and language therapist working within the service.
The post holder will participate in Continuing Professional Development, clinical audit and in service training.
Main duties of the job
To deliver the SLT input for older adults with organic and/or functional mental health disorders. To work within the most appropriate location for the service user i.e. ward or in a community setting including nursing and residential homes as required. Experience of multi-disciplinary Team working is essential and the post holder will need to be able to prioritise and organise a busy caseload on a daily basis.

This may include patients with challenging behaviour and patientswho have a rare form of dementia such as Primary Progressive AphasiaTo communicate complex condition-related information to patients, service users,carers and other staff in an appropriate manner.To set and maintain a high standard of clinical practice and encourage and motivateother members of the teamTo maintain levels of professional competence and highly specialist clinicalknowledge according to the needs of the serviceTo offer highly specialist clinical / professional advice within a multi-disciplinary setting to work collaboratively with other disciplines.

- Degree level qualification Speech / Language Pathology Therapy. HCPC Registration.
- Evidence of successful completion of relevant specialist short courses to maintain and develop a sound knowledge base of a specialist therapist working in the field of adult acquired swallowing and communication difficulties to Masters Level or Certificate in dysphagia or equivalent - in-depth practical experience in the field of dysphagia.
- Proven post registration experience at a band 6 or above of working with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties .
- Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team including development of shared goals and care planning
- Understanding of formal and informal assessment approaches relevant to communication and swallowing difficulties in adults with dementia and other acquired neurological conditions
