The post holder will be a key member of the Research and Innovation (R& I) team providing specialist research and clinical care for participants enrolled in clinical research studies. They will support and promote the set-up and delivery of such studies within the Trust, demonstrating a clear commitment to patient safety. They will have responsibility for a portfolio of clinical research studies across the reproductive health portfolio and take a lead role in development of this portfolio, by identifying new opportunities and liaising with study sponsors, internal and external parties.

The role will involve continued engagement and promotion in the maternity department.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be involved in recruiting patients into clinical research studies. They will provide research nursing/midwifery support for research staff, patients, volunteers and relatives as appropriate to the studies undertaken, and will ensure they are conducted to the appropriate regulatory standards. They will provide clinical leadership to nursing and support staff, including monitoring and raising the standard of research and care. They will be involved in development of team objectives to enhance the performance and expansion of research at the Trust.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of �41.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salaryIn addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of �13.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Current First Level registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Evidence of continuing professional development


Desirable

  • Recognised recent ICH-GCP training
  • Teaching and assessing qualification
  • First degree/ on degree pathway or relevant clinical experience


Knowledge

Essential

  • Good understanding of the purpose of clinical research, including ICH-GCP


Desirable

  • Understanding of the regulatory agencies, frameworks and legislation underpinning clinical research
  • Knowledge of clinical research processes


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of working across a variety of clinical areas


Desirable

  • Experience of working in a clinical research environment
  • Experience of writing standard operating procedures


Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Highly effective communication skills
  • Good written and analytical skills
  • Ability to plan and manage workload autonomously
  • Demonstrable IT skills (including use of Microsoft suite)
  • Clinical skills competency in venepuncture
  • Effective team working across professional and organisation boundaries
