An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Wessex Genomics Laboratory Service (Salisbury) for a full time, 12 month post as registered Clinical Scientist working in cancer genomics to join our scientific team. The main focus of the role will be the analysis and interpretation of cancer WGS data. Candidates with other areas of expertise in cancer genomics will be also welcomed.
You will join our innovative Oncology Genomics team who are committed to patient-centered service provision through accurate and timely data analysis, interpretation and reporting of genetic/genomic information following karyotyping, FISH, SNP array and a range of molecular genetic testing, including targeted Next Generation Sequencing panel testing and whole genome sequencing (WGS).

The WGLS is a member of the Central & South Genomic Laboratory Hub. Employment will be with UHS but the roles will be based within Salisbury District Hospital. There will be opportunities for learning from both laboratories.

What youll do
You will join our innovative Oncology Genomics team who are committed to patient-centered service provision through accurate and timely data analysis, interpretation and reporting of genetic/genomic information following karyotyping, FISH, SNP array and a range of molecular genetic testing, including targeted Next Generation Sequencing panel testing and whole genome sequencing (WGS). The main focus of the role will be: 1) the analysis, interpretation and report writing of variants detected by the haem-onc NGS panel 2) the analysis and interpretation of cancer WGS data (from solid and haematological malignancies in both paediatric and adult patients), presentation of the findings to scientists, clinicians and clinical geneticists at our regular Genomic Tumour Advisory Boards (GTABs) and issuing of reports. Attention to detail is essential to ensure that patient results are delivered in a safe and efficient way to direct patient management and therapeutic decisions.You will be involved in liaising with other healthcare professionals to develop and maximise the effectiveness of the service. Equally, you will be supported by the department in your future development and training

What were looking for
- an HCPC registered scientist
- a scientist with excellent knowledge of human genetics, cancer genetics and the ability to critically analyse and interpret scientific data. An understanding of and proficiency in variant classification for somatic and/or germline findings according to published guidelines is required and experience in analysis of complex genetic data, e.g. from WGS (including the 100K project), would be an advantage.
- a scientist able to produce clear and concise patient reports adhering to agreed templates and sample turnaround times
- a scientist with excellent communication skills to ensure effective multi-disciplinary team-working and communicate complex information at an appropriate level to service users
- a scientist able to demonstrate an understanding of quality control / quality assurance procedures and UKAS requirements
- a scientist able to show evidence of continuing professional development to demonstrate specialist knowledge

- Honours degree in a scientific subject MSc in relevant discipline or equivalent level of knowledge.
- HCPC Registration as a Clinical Scientist with evidence of further specialist training
