An opportunity has arisen for a forward thinking, motivated, woman centred, Band 7 midwife with leadership and managerial skills to work as the Antenatal Clinic Manager based in the Thomas Linacre Centre and Leigh Infirmary at WWL Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced midwife, who is able to role model, lead by example and provide first line managerial support.
You will be part of a well-established Outpatient midwifery team, which consists of the Antenatal clinic service and geographical based community teams in addition to continuity models of care teams.
This is a full-time role (37.5 hours) - the working pattern is over 5 days Monday to Friday with hours compressed over 4 days available.
An Enhanced DBS with Adults' & Children's Barred List checks will be obtained during pre-employment checks.

Main duties of the job
As a qualified midwife the post holder will be required to provide care and advice to women during pregnancy, and in relation to labour and the postpartum period. The post holder will also provide daily clinical and managerial leadership to Midwifery and Support staff in the delivery of evidence-based client centred care.
The post holder will have clinical responsibility and be an expert in the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care in pregnancy, intrapartum and postnatal care, and be accountable for the performance and outcomes of midwifery care.
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring all care is delivered according to Trust Policies and Procedures maintaining contemporaneous and accurate records. By utilising clinical audit, research, supervision of practice and teaching they will monitor and improve standards of care by efficient and effective use of resources/ funding.

- Co-ordinate and manage midwifery care within the Antenatal Clinic service, working in partnership with colleagues and medical staff across the Directorate/Primary Care Trust.
- Also provide clinical leadership and develop standards to promote high quality practice.
- Ensure the provision of safe, effective and high-quality care for all women maintaining continuity of care from referral/admission to transfer/discharge within the multidisciplinary framework
- Evaluate clinical practice and its outcomes to sustain and improve the quality of care in all aspects of midwifery practice within the Antenatal Clinic environments.
- Establish and maintain effective communication with individuals and groups about difficult or complex matters overcoming any problems in communication.
- Prioritise and delegate workload appropriately, assess performance, allocate, co-ordinate, monitor and assess the work of individuals/teams.
- Assess womens health and well-being needs when those needs become complex and change within the workload/caseload.
- Manage own workload autonomously.
- Support the Matron Hospital/Community Services in the utilisation of physical and/or financial resources in the maintenance of the service within the post holders area of responsibility and in support of the Directorate.
- Develop and maintain midwifery knowledge and practice by attending and participating in Continuing Professional Development and influence the development of others.
- Teach in the clinical setting and participate in the in-service training programmes, study days and conferences.
- Influence and contribute to educational strategies, both within the Directorate/Community and across the Trust thus strengthening links with Salford University Midwifery Faculty.
- Responsible for recognising and responding to situations which requires immediate action within both hospital and community setting.
- Contribute to practice, education and development, act as a resource for the support and guidance of staff and represent corporate and Directorate level interests.
- Deputise for Matron Hospital/Community Services and participate in senior nurse rota where required.
- Liaise with Matron Hospital/Community Services to plan staff off duty rota negotiating with staff to ensure adequate staffing cover for the needs of the service across the Directorate for a 24-hour period. Provide and arrange on call cover as appropriate.

- ENB 997 or other teaching qualification or equivalent experience.
