Main duties of the job

The new and exciting field of Digital Healthcare looks to improve patient care and staff working experience by using technology and digital pathways. More and more job opportunities are being created for people with an interest and experience in implementing and designing digital health solutions. From patient records to research, health economics to clinical decision support, Digital Health aims to bring current IT technology to healthcare settings.

The team consists of several applications that cover pharmacy, chemotherapy workflows, and clinical trial management. The post holder will oversee and be responsible for the design, configuration, build, and testing of these application modules. Working in conjunction with the EHR delivery managers, they will be responsible for close integration of their application teams with the other application teams in the EHR programme (e.g. outpatients). This includes supporting the managers to ensure the team execute relevant plans and deliver work on time in adherence to the established governance structure and quality standards. They will engage regularly with clinicians and operational managers, analysing service needs, and helping them to agree and deliver clinical best practice standards, future workflows and system optimisation. They will help solution and prioritise new projects in line with Trust strategic objectives.

Job responsibilities

The work will include developing, managing and supporting the analysts, and working closely with training, technical, information, programme management, benefits and communications staff. We have excellent relationships with departmental leads, super-users and subject matter experts who help prioritise our workstreams. We also have a rolling upgrade programme which delivers new features and functionality to ensure the system is up-to-date.

For those candidates who are not already Epic certified in the Willow (Pharmacy) and Beacon (cancer protocol) applications, we will offer training and you will be supported to attain certification as a requirement during your 6 month probation period. Candidates without Epic certification will start at band 7 and progress to band 8a after certification and after passing their probationary period.

Applicants without an Epic certification will also be required to undertake the Epic aptitude assessment (the Sphinx test) prior to interview.

The team work on site once every 2 weeks. Team members may choose to work on site or remotely the remaining time. We are open to applications from outside the London area.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential

• Pharmacy, nursing or other health related degree or equivalent through experience and professional development.
• Specialist knowledge across a wide range of subject areas relating to EHR systems and digital services.
• Good knowledge and understanding of NHS clinical, administrative and operational workflows.
• Epic certification in the Willow Inpatient module

Desirable

• Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or General Pharmacy Practice, or equivalent
• Epic certification in the Beacon or Research modules
• Epic certification in the Willow Ambulatory or Willow Inventory modules

Experience

Essential

• Substantial experience as a hospital practitioner
• Experience of change programmes while also developing and maintaining high standards of quality.

Desirable

• Experience configuring an electronic prescribing and medicines administration (EPMA) system or configuration of medication within an EHR system, such as Epic or Cerner
• Experience working in the field of oncology/ haematology pharmacy

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to meet deadlines and complete tasks within agreed time scales.
