An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Community Mental Health Nurse in the Barnet Intensive Enablement Team as we are looking to expand our friendly, approachable and effective service. We are committed to transforming our service into a quality rehabilitation team and need additional skilled staff to help us achieve our ambition.

As one of our CPNs you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary team, providing effective care and specialist advice for people with psychosis and complex mental health needs and their carers, in order to support their wellbeing and recovery.

You will liaise with other agencies in planning and assessing programmes of care, including providers of residential and supported accommodation ( mental health specific) . You will have the opportunities to be creative and facilitate group work and provider events. You will also lead on physical health projects within the team.

You will have the opportunity to undertake duties designed to extend clinical and managerial expertise as delegated by the manager when required. This will include deputising in the absence of the Senior Practitioner CPN

Main duties of the job

  • Carry overall responsibility for the management of a caseload
  • Deliver effective care and treatment that is carried out within a multidisciplinary framework and in collaboration with other agencies.
  • Involve service users and their carers in planning care that includes all of their individual and diverse needs.
  • Design individual programmes of care collaboratively with patients to maximize self management and social inclusion and reflect their own goals and aspirations. Review and adjust plans according to changing service user needs.
  • Provide evidence based therapeutic interventions using developed interpersonal skills such as CBT or psycho-education.
  • Provide service users and their carers with clear and intelligible information which will assist them in making informed decisions about their treatment and care.
  • Be creative and facilitate groups and provider engagement sessions
  • Lead on physical health projects with the senior practitioner CPN.
  • Provide evidence based therapeutic interventions using developed interpersonal skills such as CBT or psycho-education.
  • Provide service users and their carers with clear and intelligible information which will assist them in making informed decisions about their treatment and care.
  • Administer medication, monitor for effects and side-effects, in accordance with NMC Standards and Trust policies.
  • Facilitate vocational rehabilitation and those aspects of mental health recovery concerning occupation.

Person Specification

Education & Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Mental Health Practitioner.
  • Dip/BSc (Hons) in Mental Health Nursing
  • Evidence of further post-registration education and training or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification.


Desirable

  • Relevant qualification in Psychosocial Interventions with people with severe and enduring mental health problems


Experience & Knowledge

Essential

  • Minimum two years post registration experience, one of which will be as working with people with complex mental health problems.
  • Awareness of patient care within the wider context of the organisation
  • Have an understanding of the importance of user/carer involvement
  • Awareness of treatment outcomes, recovery tools, care planning, assessment of risk.
  • Have an understanding of equal opportunities, diversity and anti discriminatory practice


Desirable

  • Knowledge of the roles within the multi-professional team


Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to assess clinical situations quickly and use initiative
  • Ability to work under pressure in acute situations with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to undertake comprehensive risk assessment and implement risk management plans.
  • The ability to implement clinical and line management supervision.


Desirable

  • Report writing skills
  • Group facilitation skills
