We are a 22 bed inpatient ward and an adjacent paediatric assessment unit in which we treat children aged from new-born to 18 years old with a broad range of paediatric conditions including surgery, oncology, orthopaedics and ENT.
The unit is supported by a friendly, dedicated and highly skilled medical team and, as a Band 5 nurse, you will also benefit from the support of 14 Band 6 Sisters and an excellent team of Nursery Nurses and Registered Nursing Associates along with your Band 5 peers
We also have a Paediatric Assessment Unit open 7 days a week for all acute GP and ED referrals.
Our exciting new Integrated Front Door is opening Summer 2024 providing a better and more streamlined service to the children and young people of Swindon.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible for providing safe and effective care to all children (aged 0 18) requiring admission on the Childrens Unit/Paediatric Assessment Unit of Emergency Department. They are responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of evidence based individualised patient care within the boundaries of their role. The post holder will contribute to the continuing development of standards of care including developments of nursing standards and monitoring of outcomes. The post holder will be expected tocontinue with their own professional development.
Caring for child aged 0-18 years old with a variety of medical and surgical conditions.
Assessment and implementation of care.
Working with children and families.

- Recent experience nursing children in an acute / community setting or recently completed a Return to Paediatric Nursing course.
- Able to demonstrate effective consolidation of nursing knowledge and practice after qualification and Preceptorship.
