The recruitment team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) are excited to be able to offer a fantastic opportunity for a friendly and enthusiastic registered nurse to join our progressive Surgical Outpatient team. As deputy sister you will assist the Senior Sister in the management of the outpatient environment. You will need to be able to provide proven clinical leadership to support the outpatient team, providing current evidenced based patient care.
The Surgical Outpatient department offers clinics across two hospital sites, UHS and the Royal South Hants Hospital (RSH) which is approximately 4 miles from the UHS site. The Surgical outpatient department covers many specialities including: Medical, Surgical, Hepatology, Gastroenterology, Hepatobiliary and pancreatic (HPB), Colorectal and Maxillofacial surgery. At the RSH we offer an Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) service. The department mainly operates Monday to Friday 8am - 6pm with occasional evening and weekend working.

As an outpatient deputy sister you will need:
To be responsible for assisting the Senior Sister in the management of the outpatient environment, ensuring adequate standards of care are maintained using available resources.
To help create a conducive learning environment and to provide clinical nursing advice to nurses at Band 5 and below.
To act as team leader in the supervision of the professional work of nursing staff at Band 5 and below, exercising good leadership and control. The successful applicant will need to be flexible, enthusiastic and well-motivated to work in this challenging area with the ability to work as part of a team.
This is an ideal opportunity to broaden your experience whilst being supported by an experienced nursing team, who are keen to support your ongoing professional development.
You should be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the outpatient service and you will be expected to work at both hospital sites.
