The post holder will be responsible for carrying out immunisations/vaccinations, venepuncture, pre-placement screenings, DSE assessments and any other activities for which they are competent. The role will also involve health promotion and delivery of events/activities in line with the Trust Health and Wellbeing strategy.

Main duties of the job

The role holder will run clinics to support immunisation check and vaccinations for staff at Airedale and some local organisations that we support. The role holder will also complete pre-employment checks for staff about to start in their roles, will complete health related tasks on Cohort (the OH system we use) and will deal with questions over the phone and in person, to name but a few aspects of the role. The role holder will offer support for management referral assessments and reports via the Cohort Database.

The role holder will be willing to gain Occupational Health Qualifications.

This role will be based at Airedale General Hospital but the Post holder will also be required to work off-site providing services to external clients.

Qualifications

Essential

  • First Level Nurse
  • NMC Registered


Desirable

  • Willingness to work towards a specialist qualification in occupational health


Experience

Essential

  • Band 5 experience post registration
  • Knowledge of current topical professional issues in the NHS


Desirable

  • Occupational Health or Practice Nurse experience (or similar)
  • Previous experience in pre-employment screenings
  • Previous experience in DSE assessments
  • Previous experience in health promotion
  • Previous knowledge of OH& S legislation


Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Manage own time and clinical caseload
  • Manage stock levels of drugs, sundries and medical equipment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Understanding of issues of confidentiality related to nursing practice

  • Flexibility i.e. in terms of job requirements and cover for external contracts

  • Competent in and able to accurately input and extract data from Microsoft Office , i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Required to sit in one position for extended periods when undertaking DSE work, i.e. writing reports

  • Be able to undertake venepuncture

  • Ability to deal with frequent, unpredictable, telephone enquiries and 'walk-ins'
  • Able to deal with occasional telephone enquiries by distressed or aggressive individuals
  • Concentration required when writing reports, collating information
  • Be able to adapt to service needs as day to day work can be unpredictable due to the diversity of the service
  • Able to research complex information

  • Ability to drive and have access to own vehicle in order to attend external clinics and will be carrying contamination equipment / bodily fluids
