An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for an Epilepsy Specialist Nurse in Neuroscience and Spinal Care Services. We are seeking a pro-active, hardworking, passionate and forward-thinking individual to provide senior nursing expertise, clinical excellence, leadership, innovation and development in epilepsy management after training. The candidate will have experience in epilepsy management and significant experience in neurology at a senior level. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver seamless care for patients with epilepsy.
About the role
The job purpose is to provide a specialist nursing service to adults with epilepsy. You will provide expert advice, education and support to the patient with epilepsy and their families/carers. You will provide expert nursing advice and promote a wider understanding of epilepsy for other professionals through education and training. You will liaise with other healthcare professionals. The role of the specialist nurse is multifaceted incorporating key functions such as policy and standards development, practice development, service development, education, research and audit and personal and professional development. The ultimate aim is the provision of a cost effective, efficient, excellent quality service which meets the needs of the patient caseload / client group.
Main duties of the job
You will identify and address your own professional and clinical development needs. You will possess a first level degree and teaching qualification. You will hold or be committed to completing non-medical prescribing and clinical skills. You will deliver autonomous clinical practice in outpatient and inpatient settings, working in an MDT with clinicians in Neurology, Neurophysiology and Cardiology. You will provide significant teaching, training and education to patients, carers and professionals in a wide range of contexts from bedside to formal settings
Hours of Duty for the post are 37 1/2 hours per week, Monday to Friday, hours of starting/finishing dependent on workload. The post will be based at The James Cook University Hospital, but will require occasional travel to deliver service to patients, carers and professionals across the catchment area.
