We are looking for an enthusiastic, and motivated speciality doctor to join our outstanding community Service.

This post would be ideally suited for a doctor, who has a minimum of 2 years' experience in clinical psychiatry practice, and is interested working in a speciality doctor position in psychiatry outside of a Training position.

A successful candidate would have the option of continuing ongoing work in a speciality doctor position, or considering the option of applying for Speciality Training in Psychiatry in the future. An alternative career path would be progression as a speciality doctor and with the possibility of gaining a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) via Article 14 route once required experience can be evidenced in the future

The post-holder will work under the supervision of a consultant psychiatrist and will be integral to a multidisciplinary team, accessing local CPD activities as appropriate.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide medical input and support to the medical monitoring function of the Community Eating Disorders Service(to ensure safe and effective medical monitoring of community patients suffering from a severe or enduring eating disorder) working with the salaried GP, nursing team and Associate Specialist Psychiatrist
  • To work with the specialist multidisciplinary team and share responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service.
  • To participate in the acute pathway and SEDU (Specialist Eating Disorder Units) pathway
  • To participate in assessment clinics
  • To risk assess service users
  • To complete specific reviews of service users (diagnostic and medication review clinics)
  • Teaching and training of junior staff, medical students, and other disciplines.
  • To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance, audit and research.
  • To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).
  • To attend all relevant mandatory training as and when required to do so.
  • Form and maintain professional links with GP's, families, carers, other mental health professionals, VCSE organisations and our colleagues in acute care and SEDUs.

Person Specification

Education/ Qualification/ Training

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Fully registered with the General Medical Council


Desirable

  • Higher degree
  • Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines)
  • Approval under Section 12(2) of Mental Health Act 1983, or plan to gain approval within 6 months of appointment.


Knowledge and experience

Essential

  • At least two years experience of psychiatry clinical practice post medical qualification
  • Appreciation and social and cultural factors of relevant to psychiatric practice
  • Experience of and commitment to clinical care of individuals with severe and enduring mental health conditions


Desirable

  • Experience of clinical work in Acute Adult Psychiatry
  • Experience of Quality Improvement projects & Clinical Audit
  • Good working knowledge and experience of the application of the Mental Health Act

  • Ability to work as a part of multidisciplinary, multi-model team
  • Ability to manage complex workloads and support others to do that
  • Consultation skills to services, teams and individuals
