Will you be the Director of the new North West Regional Research Delivery Network?

The North West (NW) Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN) is one of 12 RRDNs across England, which form the Research Delivery Network of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), and will come into being from 1st October 2024. In preparation for this, the Director role and the Senior Management Team reporting into the Director, are being recruited to this calendar year with a view to being in post from April 2024 to establish the new organisation.

Exceptional vision of leadership is required to articulate and realise these and the other aims of the national Research Delivery Network across its many stakeholders and to direct the North West RRDN Senior Management Team in operationalising and achieving that vision.

This vacancy is only available to current senior management team members of Greater Manchester and North West Coast CRNs regardless of their employer and current employees of the host organisations of the two CRNs, which are Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust respectively. AfC band or appropriate clinical scale.

Interviews will be held in person at the Nowgen Centre, Grafton Street, Manchester M13 9WU on 12th October 2023.

Main duties of the job

The RRDN Director is the senior officer responsible for the overall leadership, delivery and management of the RRDN. They will oversee and drive the work of the RRDN Strategic Development, Operations and Health & Care Research Directors.

The purpose of the RDN is to support the effective and efficient initiation and delivery of funded research across the health and care system in England for the benefit of patients, the health and care system and the economy. The RRDN Director will be accountable for enabling this regionally by providing efficient, effective and nationally consistent supporting services and activities in line with the requirements of the RRDN Host Organisation Contract with the Department of Health and Social Care, with particular emphasis on addressing the needs of the life sciences industry (across both commercial contract and commercial collaborative research).

Person Specification

Education ,Skills and abilities

Essential

  • Masters level qualification or equivalent
  • Knowledge of national systems, structures and processes for supporting clinical research in NHS and non-NHS settings
  • Comprehensive understanding of research, the NHS and the wider health and care system including associated responsibilities to the public and patients
  • Experience of working in the health and care research sector, the health and social care service sector or academic environment at a senior level
  • Proven leadership skills in the management of change


Desirable

  • Understanding of governance and legislative framework for clinical research in the NHS
  • Executive level experience
