The Urology Theatres are based within a purpose-built suite comprising of a patient reception area, three operating theatres and a two-stage recovery area. The department is based in the Nottingham Urology Centre at the City Campus of NUH and has a dedicated team of staff who work permanently in this area. The team is small and friendly and we pride ourselves on the personalised care we can offer to our patients.Currently the operating hours of the unit are Monday - Friday 7am to 7:30pm but working hours are currently under review as we are working hard to reduce the current waiting times for our patients.
Main duties of the job
This is a busy unit, receiving patients on the day of their admission for surgery. The department provides surgical services for both Urology and elective Gynaecology. You will be required to admit our patients to the department, which includes the use of NerveCentre to complete the admission process. Venepuncture and ECG skills may be required during the admission process. You will be required to provide immediate post-operative recovery for our patients, including pain management, the administration of medication and provide care for patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Skills such as cannulation, IV medicines, the care of epidurals and PCA infusions as well as the mentoring of students is an advantage and will be required as part of your role. You will also be required to manage the discharge of our patients both to the wards and also directly home from the department, arranging district nurse referrals and outpatient appointments.
About us
The Recovery Practitioner role is varied, managing post-operative patient care for a wide range of patient groups and you will need to demonstrate the ability to manage acutely ill patients, including the management of PCA and epidurals. Previous recovery or critical care experience is desirable but not essential since a comprehensive induction package will be available to support the successful candidate.
The Recovery Practitioners also admit patients arriving in the department on the day of surgery and also complete the discharge of some patients from the department post-surgery. Admission / discharge experience as well as experience of Nervecentre and MedwayPAS would be an advantage.
