We are looking for a forward thinking, highly specialised cardiac physiologist to join our friendly, motivated, energetic team, to support the delivery of a high quality cardiac rhythm management service in this leading tertiary centre.

To apply for this post you must have full BHRS (HRUK) / IBHRE accreditation in Devices and or EP, and a Degree in clinical physiology or equivalent and you should be on, or eligible to join, the RCCP or HCPC register.

This is an exciting opportunity for either an experienced Senior Cardiac Physiologist wishing to specialise in Cardiac Rhythm Management, or a Chief Cardiac Physiologist looking for a new challenge. We can offer you the training and support that you need to achieve your goal, and to go on to take a leading role in a specialist area of the CRM service.

Main duties of the job

As a large tertiary centre we provide the full range of invasive and non-invasive procedures. Our EP/RFA and 3D mapping service utilises Precision, Ensite, Diamond Temp, Carto and CRYO technologies. We regularly utilise new technologies on a limited market release basis. Following expansion to the VT ablation service, the Trust is now the largest centre within the region providing the procedure and is the Abbott VT Ablation training centre within the UK..

The device implant service has grown and now includes S-ICD's and Micra A-V, as well as ICD, CRT-d, CRT-p and brady pacemakers, and we have expanding remote follow-up clinics to compliment the face-to-face clinics running each day. We now offer specialised device clinics in our Joint CRT optimisation and Heart failure clinic and a Physiologist led VT clinic

Other cath lab procedures include closure devices, TAVI, IVUS etc and a 24/7 PPCI service that is one of the best in the country.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. To work as a highly specialist practitioner in the CRM section, supporting the full range of EP/RFA procedures and device implant and follow-up procedures performed in the Department of Cardiac Investigation, and to provide operational management support to the Senior Chief CP for the specified area within Cardiac Investigations.

2. To provide nationally accredited highly specialist expertise for clinical practice in at least one area of speciality and to manage workload for designated clinical area ensuring effective planning and organisation for service delivery. To report shortfalls and delays in the service to the relevant Senior Chief CP or Service Manager to minimise patient delays.

3. To ensure that all procedures and data produced are to the required standard and are documented in accordance with Department Operational Procedures/national guidelines and to actively contribute to effective service delivery and service development.

4. To ensure diagnostic tests are performed in accordance with protocols, and data and diagnostic reports containing a range of complex facts and measurements are accurate and produced in a timely manner.

5. To be competent to document patient data for investigations undertaken within the department, ensuring that all data is accurate and processed in a timely manner and produced in the appropriate report format.

6. To ensure highest levels of concentration and accuracy to complete tasks and interpret results.

7. To have complex hand / eye coordination and dexterity in the timely and accurate use of diagnostic machinery, equipment and consumables.

8. To be able to work in occasionally unpleasant and stressful working conditions as well as the ability to perform occasional moderate physical effort for short period during the shift including the movement of patients and heavy diagnostic equipment.

9. To support junior members of staff where appropriate.

10. To provide highly specialist analytical and judgmental skills which involve complex analysis and interpretation of data on either a daily or prolonged basis. To provide diagnostic reports and prescription for optimisation therapy for pacemaker / device implantation and follow-up and to be responsible for accurate data entry and storage of data. To verify diagnostic reports produced by junior, non-accredited staff members within established departmental policies and codes of practice.

11. To ensure information given to patients about test procedures, which is often highly complex and at times under highly distressing conditions, is communicated in a manner that ensures patients dignity is maintained, that the patient understands the procedure, and that the patient is supported and reassured whilst attending for their procedure. Also that the patient leaves with an understanding of how they will receive test results. This will include adults, children, and at times those with physical and/or learning disabilities.

11. To provide clinical supervision and support to trainees and junior staff performing assessment of competency and ensuring tasks are in accordance with departmental procedures and appropriate time scales. Provide training and assessment of junior staff as required.

12. To ensure complex and expensive diagnostic/ therapeutic equipment is used in accordance with health & safety, handling and moving guidelines and equipment malfunction is dealt with in accordance with departmental protocols. To undertake the day to day care and maintenance /calibration of all equipment used in the department.
