An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in this developing service. We are looking for a full time, Band 6 Social workertowork within Penine Lancashire covering East Lancashire including Blackburn with Darwen. We are seeking applications from confident, enthusiastic and experienced social workers who are passionate about working in a perinatal service. The successful candidate will hold an allocated caseload of socially complex cases working alongside senior clinicians and have responsibility for the delivery of high quality care. They will offer support and advice to the team and act as Safeguarding Champion, facilitating the team safeguarding supervision, supported by specialist safeguarding practitioners.

We welcome applications from both male and female applicants and although advantageous, there is no requirement to have previous perinatal experience, as training will be provided.

Main duties of the job

  • Pennine Specialist Perinatal CMHT aspires to provide excellent comprehensive Perinatal Mental Health Services for the women of Pennine Lancashire. We deliver a sustainable and resilient solution for women suffering from a mental illness in the perinatal period by focusing on improving outcomes for them, their infant and their families. We do this by effective multidisciplinary integrated team working and ensuring effective prevention that responds to local need.

More specifically:
  • The post holder will be an integral member of the multidisciplinary team within the team.
  • To participate in the ongoing development and maintenance of a quality region wide perinatal service through effective collaboration, liaison and prioritisation with statutory and non-statutory organisations.
  • Contributing to the building up of local care networks for mothers across Lancashire.
  • To work as a Member of the multidisciplinary team in partnership with service users and other professionals - managing complex packages of care for both mother and infant.
  • To act as an autonomous senior clinician being responsible for an allocated caseload.
  • To manage self and practice in accordance with Social Work England - recognising professional limitations, demonstrating ability to practice within ethical and legal frameworks with clear understanding of service users, carer's and their statutory rights.

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • oA recognised Social Work Qualification at Degree level or above. oA record of continuing professional development (CPD)


Knowledge

Essential

  • oDetailed knowledge of how mental health problems impact on mother/child. oKnowledge and understanding of child development, parenting capacity, environmental factors and risk and the potential protective factors. oKnowledge of current best practice in perinatal mental health. oKnowledge and understanding of the legislative and policy framework appropriate to the needs of service users from a wide range of backgrounds. oKnowledge of current research in specialist area and ability to implement into practice. oComputer literate oDetailed knowledge of the principles of clinical governance and its application


Experience

Essential

  • o2 years post qualifying experience with at least 1 years in mental health oAssessing the needs of individuals and their families oExperience in formulating and implementing effective social work interventions with children, young people and their families and or carers. oUse of evidence-based practice oExperiences of individual and group work in mental health specialties.

  • oAbility to work autonomously and to set priorities for yourself and others. oAble to negotiate a holistic assessment of need with individuals. oTo devise, implement, review and evaluate service provision and support plans. oSupervisor and appraisal skills. oAbility to exercise independent judgement, to assess risk and consult where and when this is appropriate. oAbility to work confidently in a multidisciplinary setting, including chairing meeting. oBe able to represent the social models of care and to promote social work approaches. oAbility to organise/co-ordinate and respond effectively to complex information. oAbility to build effective working relationships. oExcellent written and oral communication skills. oExcellent presentation and training skills.
