The Major Trauma Centre at Liverpool University Hospital Foundation Trust is looking to recruit an experienced Major Trauma Nurse Practitioner .

We are an established trauma centre with excellent clinical patient outcomes .

You will work alongside the 5 existing Major Trauma Nurse Practitioners coordinating the care of the Major Trauma patients through the accident and emergency department at Liverpool University Hospital Foundation Trust .

Major Trauma Centre at Liverpool University Hospital is now in its 11th year and compromises of a wide range of roles within the multidisciplinary team to include nurses , medical staff , therapists and managers .

Main duties of the job

As a Major Trauma Nurse Practitioner you will work alongisde the existing team coordinating the care of all major trauma patients through the accident and emergency department .

You will be part of a large multidisciplinary team involved in the care of the Major Trauma patients .

You will use advanced clinical ,analytical and decision making skills to assess the needs of the patients admitted under the criteria of major trauma from admission and throughout their full stay up until and including their rehabilitation and discharge .

You will ensure continuity of care for the patient and their family and offer advice and support and ward teams , acting as an expert in Major Trauma Care , advising on the most suitable treatment when required .

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Currently a Registered Nurse, Level 1, Adult - on the live NMC register
  • In possession of Advanced Practice Certification in clinical examination and diagnostics (M Level)
  • TNCC or equivalent
  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent


Experience

Essential

  • Significant clinical experience of working with trauma patients
  • Experience in training junior staff
  • Proven experience in leading and managing staff
  • Evidence of prior working as an autonomous practitioner
  • Significant experience working at a Band 6 level within a hospital environment managing an acute patient caseload
  • Experience of developing care pathways


Desirable

  • Experience of teaching others in both informal and formal settings


Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge and research on current professional issues
  • Working knowledge of the principles and processes involved in clinical audit


Desirable

  • Knowledge of trauma networks
  • Knowledge of TARN
