We are seeking an enthusiastic, forward thinking and motivated nurse to join the Hepatobillary Clinical Nurse Specialist team. This role offers a unique opportunity to work as part of a multi-disciplinary approach to develop and lead a pathway for patients with obstructive jaundice who are referred directly through GP's or as a tertiary referral from peripheral hospitals in the region.

The Freeman hospital is a tertiary referral centre for Hepatobiliary and pancreatic disease serving a population of approximately 4 million. Patients with obstructive jaundice follow a complex pathway for investigation and management including endoscopy and interventional radiology.

This is a challenging role with a tremendous opportunity to make a difference in the pathway of patients with pancreatic and biliary cancer and some complex benign pathology. This will involve nurse led outpatient activity as well as coordinating inpatient transfer from referring centres for specific procedures and repatriation back to the parent hospital. The job involve close interaction with the on-call HPB Consultant and developing the Rapid Diagnosis Service (RDS) for jaundice patients in the North East.

Main duties of the job

The role will require someone with a high level of interpersonal and communication skill and the ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team. Working as part of the multidisciplinary team you will be actively encouraged to assist with service development and improve the patient experience based on emerging and best practice models of care which is responsive to patient feedback and audit.

You will be expected to meet the essential criteria and processes as outlined in the job description and person specifications. You will also be expected to be flexible to the needs of the service.

Qualifications & Education

Essential

  • oRegistered Nurse (appropriate to branch)
  • oCurrent NMC registration
  • oDegree level / Master's level study, or a combination of equivalent specialist study / experience
  • oMeets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) requirements for mentorship if relevant to role


Desirable

  • oMaster's Degree
  • oManagement experience / qualification


Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • oExtensive post registration experience, some of which will be at a senior level within the required specialist area of practice
  • oExtended clinical practice underpinned by training and assessment
  • oAudit / research experience
  • oEvidence of on-going continuous professional development
  • oKnowledge and understanding of relevant NHS policy or project specific policy context
  • oHas understanding / experience of adult / child safeguarding

  • oEvidence of leading programme(s) of education and / or training
