The Wigan Specialist Community Mental Health team are looking to welcome a Band 7 Senior Practitioner to the team to lead and support the duty function in the SCMHT.

This is a newly created role developed as part of our Community Transformation Plan and will give the successful candidate the opportunity to utilise and develop their own clinical leadership and clinical decision making skills while providing clinical oversight of the SCMHT duty function. This role will support the effective provision of a duty function for all patients, families and professionals contacting the SCMHT. The post holder will lead the daily coordination and management of the SCMHT duty function, utilising co-ordination, delegation and prioritisation skills to work with the clinical team to provide excellent patient care.

You will work alongside a team of passionate, hard working colleagues in the SCMHT duty team and will be supported by the Clinical Team Manager, Clinical Lead and Senior Practitioners in the SCMHT.

The role will involve providing support to junior staff through direct leadership, supervision and service development opportunities

This post is a full-time position (37.5 hours) and the working hours will be 8am - 8pm 7 days a week. Flexible working can be discussed. The post is based at Claire House in Wigan. The post holder will be expected to travel across the Borough to attend satellite clinics across Wigan and Leigh.

This post includes participation in the Bronze on call rota.

Main duties of the job

Key duties willinclude:

• Overseeing the clinical management of the caseload, reviewing the practice of other staff.
• Direct supervision of a chosen staff group
• To develop and maintain relationships and pathways with other services
• To promote awareness of the role of SCMHT within local service area/team, GP practices and the wider community.
• Supporting with service management in conjunction with the team manager
• Working with the Team Manager to support with policy and service improvement and development
• Supporting service user, carer and stakeholder involvement
• Promote a culture of learning, education and professional development
• Championing quality assurance by establishing quality standards relating to the service user and carer experience, implementing Divisional Action Plans and undertaking complaint investigations
• Adherer to the principles of safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults in line with Trust Policy and local reporting procedure and ensuring junior staff compliance with this.

• Participate in and ensure provision of Clinical Supervision, both as Supervisee and Supervisor and an understanding of the Knowledge, Skills Framework under Agenda for Change
• Promote a learning environment for students
• Ensure compliance with policy, procedure, and protocol, in consultation with the Team Managers, other Senior Practitioners and Professional Leads
• Participate in multi-agency meetings e.g., Protection of Vulnerable Adults, Child Protection.
• Understand the Clinical Governance agenda and provide professional representation in local groups supporting consultation and implementation.
• Full understanding of the Care Programme Approach including the needs and rights of Carers.

Experience

Essential

• Post registration experience of working in multi-disciplinary Home Treatment team or other mental health community services
• Evidence of post registration specialist training and development.
• Experience of participating in audit and an understanding of implementing Action plans relating to the outcome of audits
• Knowledge of requirements under the Care Programme Approach including the needs of carers and the mental health Minimum Data Set.

Desirable

• Previous experience in a clinical leadership role

• Professional qualification and current registration (Qualified RMN, OT or Social Worker)
