An exciting opportunity has opened for the post of Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager on MacArthur PICU (Psychiatric ICU).

As the only male PICU serving Sandwell, Wolverhampton, Dudley and Walsall, MacArthur is a key service within Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. A friendly and well integrated multi-disciplinary team, we support people presenting with challenging behaviours through periods of acute illness, focusing on collaborative working and recovery.

The ward management team balance clinical and managerial responsibilities to lead and support the wider team, ensuring delivery of the best possible patient care.

The quality of the MacArthur team and our leaders were recently recognized by the CQC, which rated the Trust as 'Good' for the second consecutive inspection - we're now aiming for excellent!

The successful candidate will ideally have at least two years' experience as an RMN, preferably in an acute inpatient, forensic or PICU setting - although suitably experienced nurses from other services are encouraged to apply. More importantly, we are seeking to appoint someone focused on improving patient experience by developing the team.

While experience is an advantage, this is a developmental role - you don't need to know everything, but come ready to learn!

Main duties of the job

Our new DWM will work as part of an enthusiastic and supportive ward management team to shape the delivery of care and patient experience. Managerial and clinical responsibilities will include:

- Provision of and participation in clinical and managerial supervision

- Clinical leadership in a dynamic and sometimes challenging environment

- Clinical governance/assurance

- Shared responsibility for qualitative auditing and use of findings to support development of the team

- Shared operational responsibilities, such as safe staffing and performance management

- Contribution to service planning and quality improvement initiatives.

- Role modelling, in particular, demonstrating self-awareness in the context of a senior role

About us

We are a well-integrated MDT, comprised of nurses, HCAs, OT, an embedded psychologist and a single medical team. Disciplines work closely with a shared focus on patient care, and as a senior member of the nursing team your contribution will be key.

In addition to being a welcoming team, we are keen advocates for staff development. This is evidenced both by the number of students who return to work as part of the team following placement experience, and by the excellent progression rate of nurses moving into senior roles.

We maintain excellent relationships with other areas, and receive outstanding feedback from clinical teams based in other hospitals. As above, we were also pleased to receive very positive feedback from the CQC following their most recent inspection.
