Main duties of the job

The role will be fully involved in all aspects of the Board's work including as member of board committees, although will not participate in any formal vote.

There are four key aspects to the role:

• Setting direction and sharing the vision and strategy
• Ensuring the appropriate governance is in place to safeguard patients, staff and standards
• Holding ourselves and executives to account for delivery
• Shaping organisational culture

The Associate Non-Executive Director role is used successfully in the NHS to support Board succession strategy and achieve a balance of Board level skills. The Associate NED role is a 'step up' role aimed to attract potential Non-Executive Director candidates who do not yet have (sufficient) Board-level experience, or currently do not have the required availability - but have the ability and potential to succeed in a Trust Board-level role.
