We are looking for a dynamic and committed individual to provide leadership, clinically and managerially, to staff of the Childrens inpatient ward at The Grange University Hospital Ward B1, school age children
The ward manager will be responsible for an area of 24 inpatient bed spaces providing care for children up to the age 5 to 16 years
We are looking for an individual who is forward thinking, enthusiastic and adaptable, who can lead from the bedside motivating and inspiring a team.
The successful candidate will champion compassionate, high quality and dignified patient care and be responsible for ensuring effective planning and implementation of care needs. They will promote team working and have the desire and commitment to develop others and have excellent interpersonal skills. They will be a role model to the team and ensure the Health Board values and behaviours are embedded. They need to be passionate about staff, patient experience and wellbeing.
Core hours of work are Monday to Friday with an expectation to be flexible to the needs of the service.
The post offers potential for further developing clinical, leadership and management skills in a challenging but supportive setting.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will act as a role model to all team members in the delivery of a high standard of specialist research based nursing care. They will utilise effective management and leadership skills in the operational management of the ward/ unit. They will be responsible for the management of all nursing staff in the ward, from the selection and recruitment of staff to managing their personal and professional development. To act as a role model and mentor to staff and students, in establishing a positive learning environment where staff can develop to their full potential.

Ward B1 is part of the wider paediatric unit which also has 50 beds inclusive of 2 HDU beds, a 16 bed CEAU and an 8 bed Clinical Decisions Unit. The appointee will work closely with the other ward managers and their deputies to continue to engender a team work ethic, they will be enthusiastic and highly motivatedwith a warm caring approach to young people and their families. Experience of working with adolescents would be an advantage.
