The Tropical & Infectious Diseases Unit has a successful service managing both patients requiring home IV antibiotic therapy, reducing length of stay of their hospital admission.
The OPAT Team are looking to recruit Band 6 to join the team in providing support for the Trust in managing OPAT patients. The successful candidate will be able to work autonomously, selecting suitable patients for inclusion in the service and providing excellent care to those patients.
Completion of Clinical Exam and Clinical Diagnostics course desirable. Venepuncture, Cannulation (up to date) essential. Competent with ABG, blood culture, IV access desirable. Previous experience in acute setting preferred but not essential. Knowledge of anti-microbial stewardship preferred.
Current working hours are 8am-4pm - Monday to Friday, with the view of working weekends in the future..
Ability to work and travel across all 3 hospital sites (AUH, RLH, BGH) essential.
Please note, the working days and hours are subject to change in accordance with service needs and will be reviewed in the next 6 months
Main duties of the job
This post is part of a multi-disciplinary pro-active team providinginfection prevention service to a large major teaching hospital.
The team works in partnership with all members of the Infection Control Group and Trust clinical and Management teams to ensure the Trust service complies with the Health Act, Health Protection Agency and relevant Department of Health guidance to safeguard patient's staff and visitors from avoidable healthcare associated infections and to support the management of sepsis within the hospital.

To provide initial assessment of patient needs and risk in relation to OPAT.To work with the Clinical Lead for the process of referrals and receiving patients within OPAT.
To manage OPAT patients in the community
Be confident in the use of intravenous access.
Promote Antimicrobial stewardship.
Support patient and families with Self administration of medicine in the community.
To involve patients and carers/relatives in the development of services.Interviewer information pack
To collect and analyze relevant data in conjunction with the Clinical lead for OPAT (Including Advancing Quality )
To liaise with outside health care agencies as necessary
To liaise with clinical staff in other areas of healthcare to ensure a seamless service.
To review national/local documents and advise on their impact on legislation.
To provide readily available information to staff and act as a specialist advisor in all matters relating to sepsis infection, where specific medicaladvice is not required.
To advise contracting departments, participating in the preparation of documents relating to service specifications and quality standards.
To take necessary action to ensure the safety and welfare of staff, patients and visitors in compliance with current Health and Safety
To use IT skills to input into MS office applications and specific Infection programmes to ensure the effective communication and storage ofpatient information
