We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed professional who is either already an experienced nurse working with breast cancer patients (either within surgery or oncology) who would like an opportunity to develop as a clinical nurse specialist in breast cancer for a fixed 12 month period to cover maternity.

You will join a team of three breast surgeons, a nurse consultant and two advanced nurse practitioners, an advanced surgical care practitioner, two breast CNSs, the lead breast CNS and Lead Breast Cancer ANP.

You will join an established breast care nursing team. We facilitate high quality specialist nursing care to all patients with breast cancer and their families and friends, from diagnosis, during adjuvant treatment, after treatment helping them to move forward and those who develop a recurrence or metastatic disease, working alongside the metastatic breast care nurses within cancer services.

Our breast unit provides diagnostic and treatment services for benign breast conditions and breast cancer, which may present symptomatically or via the breast screening programme. Surgery is carried out on the Kingston Hospital site and includes breast reconstructive surgery. Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to be able to work in partnership with the Royal Marsden Hospital in the provision of complex breast cancer treatment.

As CNS you will also act as resource to other healthcare professionals on breast cancer treatments can supportive care issues.

Main duties of the job

The breast care nursing role includes:
  • Care, support, provision of information, signposting and referral to other agencies for patients with breast cancer from diagnosis, through adjuvant and metastatic treatments.
  • Liaising with the breast multidisciplinary team to ensure a seamless service.
  • Facilitate nurse led clinics for Holistic Needs Assessments (HNAs), patient f/u for discussion of treatments (e.g. breast reconstruction), lymphoedema service for mild to moderate lymphoedema, supporting patients before and through chemotherapy.
  • Development of further nurse led services alongside the team.
