To deliver high quality patient care with regard to all aspects of investigations and treatments within fertility, providing clinical leadership and management support within the speciality of reproductive medicine. The post holder will deputise for the Nurse Manager as required.

Main duties of the job

  • Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute to corporate activities, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times
  • Effectively communicate information regarding clinical decisions, policy and care pathways to patients/carers and the multi-professional team
  • A skilled practitioner and clinical leader providing support to the management team, participating in service/policy development
  • Responsible for clinical assessment of patients, ensuring appropriate care is planned, implemented and evaluated/audited
  • Organisation of cross-departmental/organisational activities including HR, resource
  • Demonstrate highly technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient management including complex patient monitoring equipment management and frequent administration of invasive tests/procedures
  • Develop and educate staff, participating in supervision, mentorship and appraisal as required
  • Utilise and ensure others utilise IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce and resource data available
  • Manage expected and unexpected clinical events requiring varying levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need.
  • Support patients, carers and others during difficult situations arising in the clinical area, e.g. imparting bad news or following an unexpected event.

    Job responsibilities

  • Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust Policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control at all times
  • To manage and co-ordinate a specific patient group within infertility
  • Maintain accurate patient record systems recording programmes of treatment/care/interventions to form the basis of total patient care records for both in and outpatients in compliance with the HFEA Code of Practice
  • To keep updated with the evolving changes within the legal framework of the HFEA and its guidelines. Awareness of NICE Guidelines.
  • To participate and uphold the clinical governance and quality management system within the Centre
  • Scrubbing and assisting with theatre procedures, awareness of relevant equipment, stock levels, having achieved a competency checklist in accordance with hospital policy
  • Attendance of BFS scanning study course, and achievement of competencies. Autonomy in interpreting and clinical advice based on scan results
  • The management and co-ordination of the unit on a day to day basis, in absence of senior staff
  • The management of staffing levels, manipulation of workload in the event of staff absence/sickness.
  • Effective time management and ability to prioritise with workload
  • Responsibility for maintaining compliance with mandatory training and professional development inclusive of revalidation.
